What exactly is a barium milkshake ?

I just call it a milkshake. It's a barium liquid that I have to drink before my CT scan tonight. I'm probably also having a contrast done when I get there. I stuck a straw in the bottle and didn't open it all the way so I wouldn't have to smell it. lol

FYI...I didn't know this my first CT Scan but I later found out...and assume other places can do it if you ask...

But rather then GAG down that sludge yiu can ask for it to be mixed in the office and they mix it with either Cystal light iced tea or even water and it is basically flavorless...

But it does mean you have to sit and wait and hour afterwards so you are in the office longer (about an hour)  which is why as it was explained to me they don't offer it because it's assumed people don't want to wait around for it to do its job..

but FOR ME,,,Id wait 3 extra hours reading crappy magazines and sipping tea then drinking that white Grossness ANYDAY!

I did it once and have had 3 CT scans since and always ask for the "tea" version instead and have always been accommodated.

Good Luck with your test and good luck not hurling that crap up!
