CLA - an anti cancer fat burner?????
Apparently so!
EDIT TO ADD: I want everyone to know that first and foremost I believe you must eat a clean, WLS appropriate diet to lose weight. Supplementing with CLA is only an addition to an already well planned WL food and exercise plan.
CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is an omega fatty acid that has some great properties to enhance fat metabolism and lean muscle mass production thus increasing overall metabolism. It also has been found to have anti carcinogenic properties. There is a lot of science behind this claim.

I have never been a big supplement person. However, since VSG, I've become accustomed to supplementation and a great, clean diet. I certainly feel the positive effects of those changes! So, I have changed my mind about supplementing. I began taking L-Carnatine last summer after learning about it from Dr. C and think it has been a great addition to my daily pill regimen. I'm willing now to try a few new things.
I have decided to use CLA as a supplement for the next 4 to 8 weeks. Granted I'm no longer in weight loss mode, but being healthy, losing more fat and gaining muscle are very high priorities for me. If I believe I notice the benefits of this supplement I will continue it for as long as I need to achieve my goals. I'll post periodically and let you all know how I think it's going.
I hope it works for you.
My opinions on supplements - I've taken a few things in the past that have messed with my blood work. So, I hesitate to add anything new unless I have a valid reason. Even biotin messed with my kidney function blood work for a couple of months. I've seen supplements mess with liver function, etc.
I would caution you about adding anything that hasn't been cleared by a doctor. Even if it has, I suggest that you get blood work to make sure nothing changes.
Good luck.
I'm very skeptical of supplements like that because I've tried several and none of them made any difference like they said they should. I tried the CLA for about 6 mos. before and during my 6 mo. doc supervised diet, didn't increase weight loss for me. I've also tried glucosamine and chondroiten, didn't help my arthritis one bit. Maybe I'm just immune to that stuff or expect too much. Hope it works for you!

My NUT actually has me eating pastured butter and using pastured whey protein in my shakes because they are high in CLA. I am just getting back on the wagon after being off for about a year and gaining about 25 lbs. I've lost 5 lbs this week which I think is a record for me - I don't know if CLA is the reason or not but I figure it can't hurt! Despite what others say - I feel like there is enough evidence to support its efficacy that its worth the time and money to take it whether its in pill or food form.
Amber, you can get it at GNC or The Vitamin Shoppe or online. Something to make sure about when you buy it is that it must be made from safflower oil. If it's not, it won't work as it is supposed to. The other thing is that it MUST be Tonalin CLA (The tonalin CLA is a registered, patented process that was used in all the studies. Non tonalin CLA does not produce the same results.) And the last bit of info is that you need to take 3.5 grams (3500 mg) daily for the CLA to do its "magic". Apparently, taking a smaller dose will not get the results.
I bought my Tonalin CLA at The Vitamin Shoppe and take 5 pills a day to meet the daily required dosage.
Okay, all that said, you still have to eat a clean, sleeve friendly and WL appropriate diet for this to work. So it is not a "cheating" antidote! LOL!!!! I just want to say that so I'm clear with everyone that I believe there is no substitute for eating properly.
So, Amber, let's compare! Let me know when you get it. It's day two for me.
