Geeking out over data, or why I weigh daily
I can't wait for mine to look like that :-)

Sleeved 6/12/13 - 100 pounds lost to get to goal!
Other than a few days when I knew it would be bad and took mental stock and knew I shouldn't weigh that day and when I travel, I've weighed every single day in the past 2+ years. It's just data and I just look for basic trends. It keeps me honest.

those sure are nice graphs. mine is all choppy because i only weighed myself every 3-4 weeks the first 2 months, and once a week since then. i'm a bit jealous, but i'll get over it. ;) i'd like to be secure enough to weigh myself daily, but it just makes me worry too much whenever i step on the darn scale
I am coming up on my 9 year anniversary and I weigh myself almost every day. My scale and I have a love-hate relationship. Ok, maybe it is a hate-hate relationship. It must hate me because I am so close to goal and it won't give it to me. And, I hate that. I still remember the day I had to retire my original scale-the one that went through surgery and recovery with me. It was a sad day. Now that was a scale that never disappointed me. It was a sad day the day it died. I think I weighed in so much I wore it out. I would weigh at least twice a day.
I'm a data geek and I did weigh every day during weight loss even though you aren't supposed to. I only recorded my weight officially once a week though.
But I want to address this 'stall' thing because it's a pet peeve of mine.
A stall is when you stay on program but don't lose weight for at least two weeks in a row.
It's not when you don't lose weight for a few days -- that's actually normal weight loss -- and it's definitely not when you lose weight slower than you want (when people talk about a stall when they are losing weight, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me).
It's also not a stall if you aren't on program and you don't lose weight. That's maintenance!
Not that you said those last two but people do.
In particular I see people who haven't lost weight in months and are more than 6 months out talking about being "in a stall." Then I see people saying to them "Don't worry, the scale will move again. Have faith!" That also makes me want to punch a kitten.
Guys. If you are more than 6 months out and you are not tracking your food or you are and you know you are eating more, or not getting in a lot of protein and/or fluid, or eating a lot of carbs, or not exercising very much, THIS IS NOT A STALL. You are in maintenance. You are not going to magically start losing weight again unless you change something. And going on the 5DPT is not changing something. It's playing scale games by losing water weight.
There. I've been wanting to say that for a while now.
Now let the furor begin as people swear up and down they just stopped losing weight for no reason because it's all magic and not about our own choices. ![]()
