Setpoint body memory?
But, man, if the scale isnt being stubborn, begrudgingly giving me 2/10 of a pound here, 4/10 there! Still, a loss is a loss.
It leads me to wonder how relevant to concept of setpoints and body memory is to WLS patients. I know I will get through this, but can I expect these little battles to occur at each of my previous setpoints?

A six-month stall sounds like maintenance to me. Instead of giving up you could contact your nutritionist or surgeon's office to get help. But in this case, you just had surgery, your tummy and body are getting used to it's newness.
Every body is different. And a pattern in the past doesn't mean a pattern now.
Maybe you are doing something subconsciously to create your problem?
Just live day by day, do the things you are supposed to do and everything will work out right. You just had surgery, give it time.
I used to buy into that setpoint theory until I busted through the wall. I am lower than I ever dreamed I would be. Leaner and lighter weight than I have ever been in my adult or adolescent life. You will bust through. You are only 3 -4 weeks postop? Most of us had slower or stalled weight loss exactly around this time in our journeys. Please just keep doing everything correctly as per your plan and do it consistently. This really is about the long haul. It is not a sprint, it is not a 6 month proposition. I am 9 months postop and still dropping weight on command in maintenance.
Setpoints are more psychological than physical. There's really nothing to them. If you hit a 6 month stall before, you weren't stalled you were eating enough calories to maintain that weight. That's what so called 'set-points' do - they mess with our minds.
I had problems with 'landmark' weights: 100 lbs lost, under 200 lbs, things like that. There was absolutely no physical reason for that.
Shorter answer: If you magnify the 'set points' in your mind into a big deal they'll be a stumbling block. If not, not.
Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22
175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012
I'm not worried, and I am definitely keeping to plan/trying to up my fluid intake. As for the subconscious, anything is possible because that 220 represented a huge failure to me. I was doing so well losing, then stalled and stalled and stalled. This was 2009. My doc and I changed diet, exercise, meds...he put me on Byetta, which cost me $300 and made me throw up uncontrollably. Finally, I just gave up and ballooned back up to 275. So, I have huge baggage there.
But, this time, I know I have leveled the playing field. I have only just started my journey! I have confidence that if I follow plan, I WILL succeed! And so, that is what I will keep doing, step by step by step until I get to a place where the rest of you are!
It sounds like this is another old myth of traditional weight loss that needs to be thrown out.

lol yer funny you just had VSG and frettin about set point.....set point..oh yeah very REAL. doesn't happen until the end of the "honeymoon phase" 12-18 months post op most common. I never lost another pound after 13 months post op. My set point I figured. WRONG! lmao years later..here I am yo-yoin 3- 5 pounds below my lowest post surgical weight goin lacto vegetarian. Ive always HAD to have my carbs....so long as I stay within a normal BMI /healthy BAI Im ok!...so I figure my set point is NOT etched in stone either. I think leptin is responsible in some ways in set point.... ensure survival of the organism ,-)
I think you are in the infamous classic common 3 WEEK STALL . Our stalls happen at around 3 weeks, others 3 months, 6 months, 9 months out our first year. Losin inches...when the scale says sorry charlie...so make sure you keep your measurement logs...head to toe..foot width, finger width head with...lmao..will SAVE YOUR SANITY durin em....Majority of us...a stair step DESCENT...we lose we flatten out we lose we flatten out...down down to set point. Common so maybe expect it/em..if it happens to you, if it don't kewl! ...realize it for what it is....prolong em doin everything right, stick with your plan, or break em. You have less weight to lose, so ya gotta tweak diet/exercise plan to break em sooner than later.
I have yet to see anyone here....BREAK the 3 week stall. my guess is ..dietary and physical restrictions that prevent us from breakin that major mindf*** so sooon after surgery too dang it!! lol ...so be patient....through this one.
ALL of em tho seem to break no matter what we do or don't do...sooner or later....till ya get to set point.
Hooey, don't let your head mess with your head. Put it in your mind right now that you will lose the next lb by Friday and hit your plan hard. You head is your best ally and worst enemy if you let it be.
There probably is something to set point theory, but not in the way most people interpret it. A 6 month stall means there is something else going on. For women, most likely hormone balance.
