Insurance Approval Question

My surgeon's office told me they were submitting my procedure/date for approval a few weeks ago and would contact me to set up a final meeting with the entire team to go over the details for surgery once it was approved.  Anyone know how long this is supposed to take?   I think I'm getting antsy?

Call and ask them the status. Ours didn't take long.

It works if you work it; it sorta works if you sorta work it; and it doesn't work if you don't work it.

Depends on who your insurance company is, some take days, some take weeks. If it's been a few weeks i'd call the office.

it depends on your insurance company.  my insurance company actually sends out letters for any pre-approval procedure indicating approval or denial (with the reason)  you can call the surgeon's office.  or... my insurance company's online website has an option i can check on approvals to see the status. it will show if it is submitted and what stage it is in.  if you know in fact that the approval was submitted, you can call your insurance company for an update--this is what i did.  i was able to speed my approval through because i found out i needed a letter from my PCP as well as the surgeon.  I found that out before i got the letter from my insurance company saying i was denied because of no letter from PCP was included.  i was able to get the letter from my PCP the next day and sent it in for them to look at my approval again.  what could have taken 3-4 weeks, only took me 2.

I didn't even think to check with the insurance company!  I'm trying to avoid calling my surgeon's office b/c i've had quite a few questions already and sure i will in the future and don't want to be known as the pesty patient.
