Cigna Insurance
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if any one who has Cigna had any issues with being approved for VSG? I'm almost finished all of my pre op evals and I don't want any issues with approval.
I have Cigna. Make sure you get everything submitted exactly the way they want. Best to let your surgeon's insurance specialist submit everything since they are used to the process. Best of luck!
fyi- my surgeon's insurance specialist had to threaten Cigna with contacting our state insurance commissioner.

ditto to the previous poster. Initially I go letter from the insurance saying denied because of not an independent physician recommending the surgery. I called and they wanted a second opinion. The surgery and insurance coordinator and Cigna told her that they denied it for not submitting a letter from my PCP (i have a PPO, so I'm not technically required to have a PCP) saying I was fit for surgery and he recommended it. I went to my doc to get him to write a letter. As soon as that letter was submitted, it was approved in a few days. Total time for approval, was about 2-3 weeks.
I work for Cigna and also had a difficult time. Just alot of run around and I eventually had to go to the medical director because the authorization was not put in for over 2 weeks. I was terribly disappointed in the lack of professionalism and respect for the patient/member and the surgeon's office.
