The Scale

it depends if the scale will live in your head all day. I do better with intermittent weight ins. otherwise I obsess. too much energy spent about whether to weight or not, how i am doing etc.

of course for some people it is a way to keep honest, for me there is too much variability from day to day.

whatever works for you.

I weigh daily. Several times a day sometimes. I want to know variations and trends and how my body reacts to 64 oz of liquid or 100 oz. and yeah, it is obsessive but that's the price to pay to fight back obesity. We have to be kind of obsessive about it ALL. Including weighing.

I obsess with that scale everyday!!!  I log onto MFP and I like to see the number of pounds that I have lost it keeps me on track! I say buy the scale and start obsessing....it keeps you on your toes!!!

I would be afraid not to have a scale...yes I sometimes obsess about the numbers but I gained a good chunk of my weight by avoiding weighing myself and lying to myself that I wasn't really gaining.  I plan on using my scale as one of my tools for maintenance to keep me accountable and not let even the slightest gain turn into a large number that will be harder to lose if I don't catch it early!

You need to do what works for you though, good luck with your journey!

I weigh sometimes once a month other times I will weigh two weeks in a row. It just depends. At first I was weighing everyday and that was affecting my mood so I gave it up and started weighing once a month. Now it seems like I go two or three weeks then I will weigh a few days in a row and then not for another week or two. I think I am not obsessing over the scale any more; of course that is just for today all bars held on tomorrow :-).

I still have 10 more pounds to go to maintenance; once in maintenance I think I will need to weight weekly for sure to keep me accountable. However I use My Fitness Pal to keep me accountable on calories protein carbs etc; but I will need to figure maintenance out and I believe the scale will be a big part of it until I figure out what I can eat and maintain.

All of our journeys are similar but not exactly the same, work on figuring out what works for you - acountabilty comes in many forms - figure out which one works best for you and makes you feel good and positive about your journey. Your acountabilty tools may change from time to time as well and that's ok.

i don't have a scale and don't want one I use the doctors scale as the one that counts and my gym has Olympic weight lifting so they have a scale that is always calibrated and checked , it is good till 1000 lbs thank god I don't need that

almost every gym has one and you need to go to the gym almost every day anyway

I'm not weighing myself now, but I'm 8 weeks out from surgery and following my surgeon's dietary and exercise plans like a religious fanatic follows their scripture. I know that the weight will come off, whether it is slowly, quickly, in stair steps, or continuously. So for right now I am only getting weighed at the doctor's office. I see too many people freaking out about whether they are doing something wrong because they stopped losing for a couple of days three weeks out. That isn't going to be me.

On the other hand, when I get six months out (or sooner, if I develop problems staying on plan), I do plan to start weighing myself at least three times a week if not daily. I know I'll need more accountability then and to be able to keep a close eye on how what I am doing is affecting my weight. My plan is to record all the weights I take, but average them at the end of the week and plot the average on a graph. Hopefully that way I won't get so freaked out by minor daily fluctuations in weight, and can keep an eye on the trend generally.

This is my plan as well. I am a full-time nursing student and a single mom of a one year old. The last thing I need is to weigh in on exam day and gain 2lbs. That would ruin my entire day and concentration on everything else. I can't afford the extra stress of the scale. If I stick to my diet and be conscience of what I am putting in my mouth as well as regular exercise, it is way more than I was doing before so the weight will go, not stay. Of course I may use the scale at the gym every now and again.... But I kind of like the surprise of when I go to the doctor and they say my weight... I am like wow! Cause the loss of 15 lbs in a month is better to see than.5 lbs a day... In my opinion anyway.

I must correct my previous statement. I do not have scales at home, but a coworker is a WW leader and has her scales in her office, they agree with my doctors. I have started weighing myself on Mondays just to monitor.
