Still trying to pick the "right" DR.
I am trying to go band/sleeve. Been banded 8.5 yrs.
I went to Dr. Kim who is suppose to be the best Dr. in my area for doing sleeves. Liked him OK but its like a cattle heard. He is also the most expensive. Ok that said, I have 2 more appointments. One Dr. is in Dallas, but I really liked his office manager, and all the things I have read about him. He is about 29 miles in some traffic. And required an all day class in Dallas.
The other Dr. is highly recommended and took 5 weeks to get the appointment, well I called with more questions, and was told that he requires 2 nut classes and a Physc evaluation. FOR CASH PAY? I asked why about he physc class, and she said the Dr. wants to make sure I know what I am getting myself into, and that I am not depressed about my weight. Hello, I have a Lap Band.
Did anyone out there have to do all this if you were cash pay?
I am so confused.
Lap band 3-4-05 starting weight 312 now 190
LBL/BL w/lipo 6-18-08
Arm/Thigh Lift w/lipo 1-07-09
Sometimes losing is really winning!
its good that your checking a few surgeons , most surgeons have at least that many requirements I had alot more
blood work, stress test, endoscope, 6 months diet , had to lose 12% extra weight ( I was not self pay but my surgeon requires most of these for all patients, I also had a phyic test, and 2 nut classes
these surgeons are in no rush they want to make shore you are healthy enough for surgery and are prepared for it
my surgeon does 4-6 wls a week
make shore the surgeon you go to has a great support group it is real important, try not to go to one that is to far for you to go to regular meetings
I was a cash pay and went Dr. Davidson...he's an amazing surgeon and always voted Top Doctor in D every year...I don't know if he does revisons But worth check him out... I live about an hour from him due to traffic but he has people from all over traveling to have surgery with him and IMHO very worth it...shoot me an email if you to talk more...good luck.

Glad you had a good experience there. I did not care for him, but his staff was nice. He made it very clear that we would not see him again after the initial consult. What set me back was his lack of sensitivity and demeanor. His online reviews were not great.
I ended up getting sleeved at UTSW and Dr. Scott. Dr. Scott rocks and the staff is very responsive and attentive. We scheduled 2 weeks after I met him. As a cash pay, they would have taken me earlier if I wanted.
I would encourage checking them out. One thing he mentioned is that UTSW and their team seem to get the redoes from other surgeons or seem to have to fix other surgeons issues when and if they are not available after your surgery.
Give them a try.
