Hormones, TOM, and sleeve capacity- Poll for the women out there
Just curious, how does your normal monthly fluctuations affect you? Do you feel that you have a predictable days that your capacity is unusually large and do you associate it with your period? Edit: are you able to eat more than a typical day even when carbs are controlled?
I do. The week prior to TOM I am convinced that I am hormonally challenged. My calories go higher than normal, my carbs go unusually high (and I am a carb eater), my weight goes up... and without fail the week of TOM I have hardly any appetite, my calories drop well below my normal, and the weight readjusts to my normal. The weird thing is that if I am eating very carb heavy I understand that it appears that my capacity has increased and this is independent of TOM. But during TOM, even if I go as low carb as what my system can tolerate my capacity is still notably more than the rest of the month. Strange.
Just wondering if others out there have noticed a predictable pattern beyond the I am a crazy PMS'ng ***** let's just say my husband was more than happy to go into his second job yesterday!

this month was particularly bad because I had medical testing ( in the middle of my AF cycle) that required a lot of fasting, and led to NO EXERCISE AT ALL.......which led to a lot of dehydration issues that Im still trying to recover from...resulting in a 3.5 pound gain since last week....
so today is my grab the bull by the horns day....Im on my 3rd 16.9 oz bottle of water already which means Im halfway to my water goal before 10am EST...
in an hour I'll have a protein drink for morning snack....
my gyn Dr suggested I track moods as well as foods (cravings)... I think next month I will try that
I have been noticing that I want to eat everything during the PMS (and usually thru TOM) then when it is done I am fine....
but this month, I am feeling like crap with it. I still want to eat everything, but I am feeling a pressure in my lower belly. hurts to sit, stand and even lay down. I can't tell if it is cramps or gas or something solid. I haven't had this feeling before, so I don't like it at all, AND worse than the pain is that I haven't lost my PMS weight yet. I usually gain up to 4-5 pounds with PMS, then slowly lose it during TOM... so far, I am holding on to the 2 pounds I gained with this TOM. ugh...
I see the OB/GYN Thursday, so hopefully she can help if I am still having issues. Hoping to get put on the pill Thursday as well, I would like some regularity with my TOM for the next 6 months anyway....
I feel like I am losing my mind... (whatever I have left to lose anyway!) lol
Yes, for me around 5 days pre period I am unusually hungry and able to eat more then usual. I have more cravings. My weight tends to be the highest right at the start of my period and a couple days in ... then I have a good sized drop. When I was losing I would have my biggest losses right after my period.
Now the weird part is for 20-25 years of being overweight and obese - I had a super regular period. 28 days on the dot. Late once while I was in my 20's and I might have been counting wrong ..... Now I am almost 41 and within 20 lbs of my goal weight and I'm all over the place. Heavier periods, much more pms ( to the point where I've warned my family that I am a witch on wheels - any big fights with stepdaughter who is 15 and challenges us have been when I am pms'ing... ) cramps, and the cycle is all over the place. I was a week late last time . Now I am a week early. sigh... could be the weight loss but more likely peri menopausal symptoms.
Very similar patterns... looking back on when I got super fat I am absolutely certain the hormonal patterns played a significant part. This has been the one true blessing with MFP- for the first time I was tracking weight and the graphs showed a very clear pattern. Once I realized it I learned to work with it, and not let it completely derail me. Now if I can just figure out how to tweek the hormones so I am not as much of an emo!!
