I am contemplating the sleeve or Duodenal switch surgery and would like to know if anyone can recommend someone and share their experience with this particular physician. I really would like to be in the best hands with the least risks and best long term results. Please share your experience.

Thanks,

Mary

I had my surgery with Dr. Peter Henderson from Raleigh but he transferred to Georgia about 6 weeks after I had it. I have been going to Lindsey Sharp at Rex Surgical for follow up and really like him. He actually did a piece on WRAL a week or so ago that you can probably google and watch.

Dr. Overby at UNC did mine in July.  They have a great program there and everyone I met was caring and knowledgeable.  Even after the information session and the sessions with the psychologist and nutritionist, he still took the time to sit down and explain everything, answer my questions, and ask questions about me.

They have excellent results for the sleeve, do a lot of them, and will follow up with you for the next 5 years.(if they said anything in the info session about doing the DS, I really didn't pay attention.  I remember the sleeve and the RNY, and that if you insisted on a band they'd do it, but it wasn't the surgery of choice these days.)

Highest weight:  287    Surgery weight:  279   Current weight:  150

I don't know any in the area personally (wrong side of the country here,) but Dr. Sudan at Duke is on the "vetted" DS surgeons list - an informal listing by some of the DS vets of well experienced DS surgeons with good feedback. As the sleeve is an integral part of the DS, these guys are a good place to start in finding someone well experienced in doing sleeves (and, of course, DS's.) Being on the list at least ranks him as one being worth considering.

I highly recommend Dr. Elariny, but especially if you decide to have the DS.  He is in northern Virginia.  He is a brilliant surgeon and hot to boot. When I decided to have this surgery, I wanted to put my life in the best possible hands.  I researched the DS for several years and decided he was one of the best.  After going to his seminar, I decided the VSG was best for me.  He helps you figure out which surgery is best for the type of eater you are.  He is interested in your long term success.

Here is a youtube video of him doing a DS.

What type of eater are you and how did you decide on the sleeve? I am a binge eater and don't eat often throughout the day. I like carbs and sweets. Just curious about what type of eater you are and how sleeve is going for you. Also, could you share the size of your sleeve and any other info you are willing to share-ie starting and present wt/ wt loss. No pressure to share if you don't want to.
