What's Your Workout Today VSGers? - Tuesday! Is anyone still interested in this thread?
Workout #1 Orange Theory - This was the hardest class I have had yet. At the end I was running at a 15% incline at 7mph.
Workout #2 - LEG DAY! - SQUATS, DEADLIFTS, LEG EXTENSION, Calf Raises, Going to add Leg Presses to my routing today. Back - Lat pulldowns, seated row, Overhead shrugs, Biceps, Hammer curls (in between squat sets), Barbell curls (going heavy today).
Okay, I love your posts, I read all of them. I do not comment on each one, but I promise I read them and have tried a couple of the recipes.
What I need is a kick in the butt!!!! I am two months out and other than walking "sometimes", riding my bike and doing the Wii, I have not started exercising like I should. I realize the honeymoon is over and I am going to need to get moving to work this like I want to!!! BUT I am letting life get in the way. Again, I need a kick in the butt!!! I do not want to be writing this same post next month, how did you make yourself get moving?
You are a breath of fresh air, I love your determination and dedication!!!! SO yes, please keep posting these!!!!!
I am good at giving kicks in the butt, so if this is not brutal enough, let me know and I will really let you have it. OK, so the good news is 2 months is just about the right amount of time to fully heal your muscles for heavy workouts. I hate to say this and you dont want to hear this but to answer you question on "how did you make yourself get moving?" You just have to do it. Schedule yourself a time exercise and make sure you make it, if it helps give yourself a punishment if you don't.
You are doing some perfect cardio for fat loss, but you also need to start building some muscle. Two things happen if you do that, first you will tone up the muscles underneath but you will also start burning more calories because more lean muscle mass means more calories burned.
Remember an effective workout does not have to be a burden. I can give you a run that takes 20 mins that will make you sweat more than an hour on a treadmill and you will burn twice as many calories. I can give you a workout routine that takes about 5 mins that if you do it when you step out of bed you will kickstart your metabolism and burn more calories all day long. There are easy ways to get started, then when you get hooked you can figure out how to get to the gym twice a day. But you do not need to go to the gym twice a day to be successful. But you do have to move.
I would LOVE for you to give me a workout routine.
That is part of my issue is that I do not know what I should be doing. I have been overweight for so long even walking was a chore. I have dropped 70 pounds and definitely feel much better.
I found out from the Wii that I have horrible balance issues (it was also confirmed by a neurologist last Friday) and I do have some back issues (had back surgery on my L5) So again, not sure how to exercise other than walking or riding a bike.
My surgeon said I need to work on strengthening my core muscles. lol, I have been reading to find out exactly what that is.
I am sure you understand this, but I am ashamed that I let myself get to this place, but am slowly digging myself out of it.
So I would take any advice you give and work it!!! I promise!!!!
I have balance issues too so I can sympathize with you there. And don't be embarrassed, we have all been where you were and are and soon you will be where we are.
First walking and riding a bike are great. Walking is absolutely the best fat burning cardio you can do when you first start out. In fact stepping up your cardio, when you are ready, is only to increase the duration of the fat burning affects.
Next in order to increase the number of calories you burn at rest you need stronger leaner muscles and as your surgeon said core is a great place to start. Core muscles are basically your abs, but you need to think of them as your foundation. All of the exercises you do use your core in some way, so the stronger they get, the better your exercises will become. So in addition to strength training, focusing on your core is important too. Here are a couple of exercises to get you started. You will find what works best for you, but take a look at these and then we can figure out when, what, and how many you should do based on how much time you have. The most important exercise you can learn to do is squats. They work the posterior chain which is all the largest muscles in your body. So if I were to pick just a few exercises to get you started:
Squats
Pushups (you can start on your knees)
Planks (these are way harder than they look)
Leg Lifts
Crunches
Pick a few things from below to try:
Okay, let me say it. I love you!!! This is great. I am going to start the "The Starter's Exercise Plan" tomorrow.
I did not even know what a "plank" was. I can try it, but definitely do not have the upper body strength it looks like it takes.
This is very helpful and will at least get me moving in the right direction.
I have been doing some of those abs exercises, but wasn't sure I was doing them correctly. I look like a fish out of water!!!!!
Okay, definitely not gonna have the flat belly like in the picture, but one could dream!!!
Thanks so much for taking the time to help me!!!!!
This thread helps keep me accountable. I may not always post but I look at it and think to myself "dammit, Danielle, get moving". I forced myself to work out yesterday and I felt SO GOOD. My legs are sore today and it makes me feel great. I'm going to run again today at the gym at my job.
Kickboxing is up in there air right now. It's too far from home and my husband and I don't get there as often as we used to. There's a new, two floor, classes only, gym closer to home and it is the same amount of money as the kickboxing gym. They offer a range of classes from boot camps, to zumba, to spin, kettle bells, yoga, pilates, etc etc. I really want to go try them out and what's good is you don't HAVE to be a member to take the classes. I can just pay per class. Probably more expensive that way but I don't want to commit to a new gym unless I'm sure I'm going to go. I have to get my butt in there! I really want to force myself to do a 6AM spin class but GOSH that is so early haha.
band to sleeve revision and loving life!
You do you, and I'll do me
