Hi Folks,

I am just wondering if there are any Indians, who have had the VSG and how are you guys doing? How do you handle a very low carb diet with Indian food?

I am mostly on salads & chicken, eggs , but rice/dal/roti/curry all are carbs!

Any suggestions?

You would think dal would be a good option. I know that my doc recommends lentils as a protein. (I'm still on purees, but will be finding ways to make some Indian food once I'm on regular food.

Have you looked up ways to lighten up things like curry?

I'm not Indian, btw, but it is my favorite cuisine ever! :)

I make dal in the pressure cooker, add some spices. But my concern is that is a lot of carbs too :(

I can share some tasty Indian food recipes with you :) Easy to make and super tasty! :)

That would be awesome!  I can make a few things, but I want to learn to make more.

Oh, and my doc told me not to worry about the carbs in beans or lentils because the protein & fiber content is good.

I'm not Indian, but I love Indian food. I have been eating dal for the reasons the other poster mentioned. And I have been eating curry without rice. The protein is good with chicken, lamb, etc. and depending on the sauce, only has like 6 or so carbs. In portioned quantities, I think that's fine. You might also try cauliflower "rice" if you really need a base. There are lots of recipes out there for it. And you could probably season it a bit to get the flavor you want.
