Can you shrink your liver on a one week liquid diet?

I'm curious if you can shrink your liver on a one week liquid diet?  I started the diet on October 28th, and for the most part I have followed the rules.  I've lost a total of 18lbs, but this weekend I caved a bit and ate some baked chicken and small salad (on Friday), and a few handfuls of movie theater popcorn (today).  I finished the rest of the day back on the liquid diet and I plan on being super strict the rest of the week (my surgery is November 15th).  I hope I didn't do too much damage eating non liquid foods.

You cant change what has already been done. From here on out give it your all and dont give in. The pre op diet was the hardest part for me. Totally worth it. Just think about the what the outcome will be and stick to liquids. Good luck!

Thank you.  I'm going to be strict on myself this week, even if it means I have to walk or sleep a lot to distract myself.  After already being on the diet for two weeks, I caved a little.  I just hope and pray I won't have any complications!

At my clinic we aren't put on the liquid diet.  We are required to follow a 3 cups a day (plus snacks) diet from the beginning.  So I eat more solid foods in a day then you did in 2 weeks.  My understanding that it is the healthy diet that softens your liver.  With that said I don't think you have done any harm.  Continue on your liquid diet as prescribed.  The weight loss helps with your surgery as it makes more room in your stomach cavity for them to move your liver out of the way.

I am going to put myself on a liquid diet for the week before surgery.  I'm worried that I eat too much and my liver won't be optimal for the surgery.  The last thing I want is to be cut open the length of my stomach because I screwed up.

Good luck and congrats on your upcoming surgery!

Thank you for your encouragement.  I'll be sending you prayers for a successful surgery without any complications or a full open surgery! I can't wait for Friday to come and go so i can start the next chapter!

Cool. Thank you!  I was never told that the liquid diet was to reduce my live size but to try and lose as much weight as possible.  After reading other people's blogs, I realized that must be the intent my doctor is striving for plus of course, the weight loss.

I also didn't have to follow an all liquid diet...mine was 2 protein shakes and
1 meal a day and I did it for a month..however, I don't think you did any damage, put it in the perspective of how much you USED to eat and you'll realize you ate practically nothing compared to that, and move forward..

Yes  it can be done I had to to a strict liquid diet one week pre-op.  That was the worst of it but it does get easier. Good luck
