Hiatial Hernia after Sleeve
I was wondering, if you think I should go to the surgery center who performed my sleeve to have the hiatial hernia fixed? Or do you think that any surgeon could do this procedure. Thanks for any advice.

My bariatric surgeon does both, so if it were me I would return to him. He did a great job fixing it during surgery.

I have one also - been having some "stomach in my chest feeling" so had an esophogram - my surgeon said he could fix it but it would be much more difficult than it would have been at time of surgery for sleeve. I knew I had the hiatal hernia then but it was small and he could not find it during the sleeve surgery - I had had the Lapband removed 5 years prior by another surgeon so I have scar tissue in that area. Anyway - I have chosen to not have surgery to repair it - trying all the standard conservative measures, - sleeping with head elevated, eating even smaller portions, avoiding caffeine and irritating foods (spicy, acidic foods), taking Pepcid 40 mg twice a day (can't take PPI's) - some days it doesn't bother me and some it does - but nothing I can't handle at this point. I definitely prefer not to have another surgery unless it becomes intolerable.
Are you having constant symptoms ? Did your surgeon say anything about the difficulty of the surgeon - just curious as to what he told you to expect. Please share and keep us posted.

Thanks for your response Paula. All my surgeon said was that he prefers to do this later, as there are less complications when you do this, and if there was a problem, you could pinpoint the problem easier without doing both procedures, which is fine by me I guess because I had an absolutely trouble free surgery and recovery (no sickness, no pain). Now my surgeon is leaving the practice, so I thought instead of traveling the hour drive to the center, that I'd have this fixed locally, but was a little worried that perhaps with having the sleeve done, would there be anything different a surgeon would need to do in this procedure, that they don't have to in a regular person (does that make sense?). Really Paula I don't have a problem with the hernia (once in a while I will feel a kind of tugging/burning feeling.) BUT the problem now is that I've lost weight, you can really see this thing protruding (YUCK!). Thanks again Paula, and I hope you continue to do well with yours!
