Do I need to purchase an abdominal binder for post-op VSG
I didn't use a binder however I already had a long camisole that had light tummy control. The first week i wore it a fair amount. It really helped when i needed to turn in bed, also felt good to wear while doing my walks. It just kept things firm enough to keep my incisions from feeling pulled. But, I didn't wear it all the time. After a few hours it gets uncomfortable.
I'm glad that I didn't spend money on a binder, needed more funds for supplements and protein. :)
While I can understand the benefit of wearing a binder after VSG surgery (less pain), abdominal binders followed by compression garments are typically only used for abdominal plastic surgery. I wore a compression garment for 6 weeks after my abdominoplasty, and am I ever glad I had it. I felt almost completely normal just a few days after the surgery when they took the binder off and put me in the compression garment. It felt so good, I am sure I could have done almost anything.
I was given one in the hospital and it was a godsend. It reduced all the jiggling and held everything in while I healed up those first two weeks. I wore it pretty much all the time!
