One Year Ago - What I WISH I HAD KNOWN!
Thank you all for your kind words - I truly know how you feel as you are starting this journey! It's so scarey! But I can't tell you how happy I am this January - usually my least favorite month as I'm (usually) depressed by my holiday gain, starting another diet & exercise plan, etc. This January I am HOPEFUL that I can continue on this weight loss journey! No - not all done in a year but I'm sticking with it and I'm happier and healthier!!
So many others have done so much better at losing weight faster than me but each journey is different. But for each of us - we do have to watch what we eat and follow the plan - no magic cure.

Hey Laurie - Good luck to you as you make your decision. I may be giving you more detail than you want about our decision but if it helps you or anyone else - here it is. You can message me if you have any other questions - we live close to each other and I'd be happy to talk to you or email you.
To be honest about our decision to both go with the sleeve, our internist had been talking to my husband for years about having gastric bypass surgery as he was Type II Diabetic. Although the track record with gastric bypass is awesome - the thought of reworking the intestines scared us. When our internist brought up WLS to me the 1st time, I was highly offended and it depressed me.
Six months later after dealing with many health issues with my husband having shingles and complications from that (his diabetes contributed to his complications) and gaining more weight myself, I was more open when my internist suggested WLS and went over the gastric sleeve with me. Something about that surgery appealed to both of us more than the others. Keeping the pyloric valve. The internist went over in detail about the each type of surgery and he was confident in recommending the sleeve for both of us - but also acknowledging that gastric bypass is "the gold standard". Our internist was instrumental in both my husband and I having WLS and he is thrilled with our results. After doing lots of reading here and meeting with surgeons, I felt good about going with the sleeve. My internist would not recommend either one of us get the lap band - his opinion.
