Not enough calories!

Thank you for your post...you've helped me realize something important.  Even thought I'm 8 weeks out I've had a lot of complications and now that I am home and trying to start again I'm like I'm in my first few weeks.

Today I got in 482 calories, 20 g protein, 81g carbs and 6g fat.  I know my goal is for more protein and less carbs but at this point I am just trying to get enough in to keep me out of the hospital so I'll take it where I can get it in.  I also got in 44oz of liquid.

I feel better what I accomplished yesterday, thank you!

Your food intake looks great, but you need more protein (not calories per se, just more protein).  Take in another protien shake (or two).  Make sure that you are hitting at least 80 grams of protein per day.  Keep your calories and carbs low just like you are already doing.

Do you know why you need more protein?  It is easier to do the right thing when we know why we are doing it.  I was curious if you understood the science behind the need for 80 grams of protein.  If you are not sure, just ask and many on here will love to explain it.  (Don't get me wrong,  you might already know, I am just checking to make sure).

Yes I know why protein is so important.  It's just hard being 4 week out and trying to get that much protein in.  I'm trying though.

I'm 2 days behind you, but can't start actual meat and cheese for another 2 1/2 weeks.  I usually end up with 4-5 meals...2 of them Premier Protein Shakes.  That's 320 calories there and I meet my minimum protein goals.  I've been doing a scrambled egg or refried beans or cottage cheese for the other meals/snacks since I'm still on pureed/soft foods.

Have you tried Isopure from GNC?  You get a lot of protein in those.  I only tried half a bottle to start but that helped me a lot.  If I remember fruit punch was the best.

If you're not feeling particularily bad on less than 400 calories, I wouldn't really worry as much about that as I would not getting in enough protein. Just adding in more protein will likely increase your calories especially if it's in the form of a shake. I still eat 3 meals a day and 2 light snacks, otherwise my calories keep me in weight loss mode instead of maintenance. My stomach is still pretty small and I can't eat much more than 1/2 a cup of food at most meals.
