Pain in right side of tummy

Hey All.

For the last couple of days I've been having a pretty much constant pain on the lower right side of my stomach. I'm 3 weeks post-op, and it didn't hurt this bad right after surgery. It's getting more tender whenever I get up and down, and feels like the "stitch" you get in your side when you run for very long. (yeah, that's an ancient memory for me)

The pain is primarily right where they did the big incision for the surgery (laproscopically) but it hurts all the time now and is getting worse by the day. I know I need to call my dr. for the ultimate idea as to what might be causing this, but I won't be able to do that til tomorrow.

Any ideas?

In all my days ahead I vow to be kind to myself. This shall also be a new and exciting experience.

I was told it was scar tissue forming and tightening up and it would go away...and it did.  Took about 2-3 weeks to be gone completely (after it started in earnest).

Call you Doc, like you said, to be sure.  Just wanted to you know I had pain like this, too, and it's gone now.  :-)

Hi KrabbyHermit...just love the name.

I had the same thing and it scared me.  I thought I busted a gut stitch.  It did happen after I felt like I had taken in too much liquid too fast.  But it went away in about 1 1/2 weeks.  It was definitely tender to the touch.  I think mine happened at about that same time frame too. Call your doc...but you are not alone.

I have to wonder if this is a stage in the healing process. I had the same thing at the same time. I was worried I had an incisional hernia. But it eased up after a couple of days and now it's virtually gone 6 weeks out.

Never hurts to call your doc!

I have it now at 4.5 months out. It's a specific area, doesn't radiate and is at waist level on my right side.  It seems to be getting worse. My main incision was on my left side..and this feels more like a tearing/searing pain.  It's not my gallbladder or appendix. I'll be calling my surgeons office to get some feedback. My best guess is the muscle in that area has a weak spot and is more noticeable because of my weight loss. We shall see! It mostly hurts when I go to sit up from laying down position, turning into my right side in bed and bending over at the waist.

I had the same pain in the same spot for about 3 days. I would say go to or call your doc if it doesn't get better or gets worse. I was worried about mine at first too but after posting Jere and hearing responses, I determined it was a normal VSG pain.
