Getting sleeved on Wednesday, going to son's banquet on Sunday... Wholly moley!!
I am so excited about finally getting sleeved on 3/26!! Dr. Mun already told me that by the 27th @ 11 am, I should be heading home. My son's wrestling banquet is on Sunday and he is getting his letter. It is going to be a tough one, not only will I still be tender from surgery, but everyone and their sister will be asking " why are you not eating" when it'll be our table's turn to head to buffet line (prime rib dinner... great. I'll need to have a bit of beef broth before I leave to get me through the smell of that country club when I get there!). I am not sure what to respond when asked questions by other parents that night; i haven't shared with anyone from that that group that I was having was - and I wasn't planning to - especially so soon out!
I've considered the possibility of not going, but I am part of the boosters club plus my son is getting his letter; I've gotta be there!!
Do any of you experienced post-ops have any suggestions for challenging outings and for handing enquiring folks? Thanks!
I would do the "stomach is upset so food is not my friend" along with a bit of a face. Then change the topic to the sons! I am good at changing the topic and switching attention to others! I was three weeks out and just starting the pureed stage at Christmas time. I kept reminding myself that i was not at any risk for starving to death because for that one time that I was not eating the meal. I am now almost 4 mos out. Meals like that are easy. I go into the gathering with the attitude that I would be more fun and interesting than the food that was being served! It will be a great memory for your son that you went to see him despite just coming out of surgery! That is what will matter the most!
I don't understand why not eating is such a big deal to everyone. Tell them your not hungry. Or if you just ate at home that you ate at home. People do not deserve an explanation on your eating habits. It would be like one of us going up to someone with their plate piled high and sayin, "Are you going to eat all that?"
