Oh, these hips!

I've had a question for a while, and I've wondered about calling my doctor, asking my regular friends, etc. but silly me, I didn't even think about posting it here. All the jogging I've been doing has really seemed to irritate my right hip. I've tried to give it a break from the impact of running by using the elliptical, but then even yesterday, I was trying to show my friend what burpees are, and I couldn't come up from it because of my hip pain. Since NSAIDs are a no-no, anyone have any ideas what I can do?

I would call your doctor's office and ask for clarification re NSAID use after VSG.

All doctors say no NSAID use after RNY but after VSG it is not so clear. Not all doctors say no NSAIDs, in fact many of us chose the sleeve over other WLS options so that we could use NSAIDs.

Please understand I do not know if NSAIDs are appropriate for your situation, but I just wanted to make sure you knew this is an issue about which there are differing medical opinions.  I have successfully taken prescription-strength naproxen every day for years both before and after getting sleeved (except for about 2 weeks right around surgery).

All the best, Katy

consult weight 241 (had not been accurately weighed for over 10 years, my medical records just said "wheelchair") high weight was probably closer to 260.

My doctor said long term NSAID use can cause ulcers in anyone, but the risk is so much higher in our tiny new stomachs. Also, the only complication I've had that has been any big deal has been reflux. It's just not a good idea in my already acidic stomach. I may ask my doctor about Voltaren gel - it's topical and therefore wouldn't cause any GI complications, but I'm just curious if anyone had a similar situation they were able to find a solution for.

Ice. Use ice on the hip. I used ice on my knee when it was hurting after starting a workout program. Also you might want to switch to water classes for a bit. And Pilates and yoga.

im on the same boat, i do aleeve and i do a lot of streching, and exercises for strengh the area. I had to take two days off, from the gym, because of the pain. I can't do PE becuase my insurance is crappy, so i do you tube searches for lower back and hip pain and work those ideas out, my favorite one is Kai Wheeler, she is awesome.

Any leftover painkillers from your surgery?  I'm rationing those babies out for as long as I can!

Seriously, I had some severe right hip/lower back pain and a chiropracter helped me out.  Something about the joint not rotating properly in the socket.  I got some good stretching exercises that have helped.
