I want to eat carbs, NOW.
I am sitting here wanting, really wanting, some "bad food". Okay, I know, there is no such thing as "bad food", only food that is either better or worse for me. I get that. Call it what you want, I am craving carbs. I am willing to settle for less than "the worst" choice. I would be satisfied with some fried potato and egg, or some whole grain bread with something on it. I am willing to compromise, but basically, when you get down to it, I want carbs.
So I sit here battling this battle AGAIN. Odds are there are real hormonal reasons for craving the carbs, and no, they would not 'kill' me if I just ate them. On the other hand, they are not on my program today and I have a choice. I can sit here and tell you guys all about it, or I can just go to the refrigerator and get something to eat.
My husband is awesome. He offered to make me some garlic shrimp, which I refused. He offered to make me a salad with tilapia, but that wouldn't do it. Clearly I am not really hungry, but my mouth is hungry, my head is hungry and my eyes are hungry.
I am going to sit here and read OH for a bit and look at some before and after photos and wait twenty minutes before I go anywhere. Just sit here and remember, the best I can, why eating carbs right now is a terrible idea.
And no, it doesn't get easier.
Edit: It's now 20 min. later. I have made my decision.

You know what this means, right?... That you're human. :) If you feel like sharing the gory details, what did you indulge in? I'm guessing you didn't pound down a whole box of Twinkies, so learning what you use to satisfy that craving would be interesting/helpful/educational. I'm trying to have a few bites of Greek yogurt (Dannon Light and Fit Coconut is fantastic) when I start feeling that way - not as satisfying as several handfuls of m&m's (from the "old days") but not as guilt-inducing either...
I find that I can often fight off a craving, especially one from TOM with healthy fat. I went and got an avocado and ate 1/2 of it with some lemon juice and salt and hot sauce. That worked. In maintenance, I often use fats to curb carb cravings. Usually my list goes something like this:
1) Wait 10-20 min. while I do something else.
2) Meanwhile, drink like a fish
3) Tell myself that "hunger is not an emergency" and that I can wait until my next meal.
When all goes to heck and I just can't stop myself (this only really happens around TOM), I eat more fat and increase my calories.
I'm having a hard time with the bag of mini Reeses peanut butter cups in my fridge. My son bought them a week ago and he hasn't finished them yet. I look at the bag every time I open the fridge, but today it is calling my name loudly.
I hope your carb craving is short-lived!
Would you be willing to throw the mini Reeses peanut butter cups out? Your son probably doesn't even think much about them. Throw them out.
This craving always gets worse around TOM and some days I can fight it off and some days I can't. On the days when I can't I try to at least choose healthier carbs. The craving and hunger completely go away after TOM starts. I am so not looking forward to menopause, hormones suck.
