In maintenance, what is your average number of calories?
I am posting this because I am just really curious what others are doing and also because I read on a different forum that some people believe that VSG patients eat 600-800 calories in maintenance. Although I have heard of people needing to eat in the 800 calorie range before, I would think that this is quite unusual. Maybe I am wrong...
If you are in maintenance, would you mind posting how far along in maintenance you are, your height, weight, and age, gender and calories consumed in maintenance.
I will start, I am five years out, 5'1", 105 lbs female. I am 44 years old and I eat about 1500 calories a day. Some days closer to 1200 and other days closer to 1800 calories, but it seems to average out to about 1500. I do light exercise most days of the week. Your turn....I am really curious. My guess is that women eat in the 1200-1800 range and men eat in the 1500-2000 range, but that's just a guess.
I've been in maintenance since November 2013 (so 9 months). 5'6"; 145 pound female; 36 years old. I eat 1200 calories on a daily basis. Of course there are days when I get up to 1500. I work out 3 days a week.
Great topic, Elina! I'm 52 years old, 5'3", 132 lbs. I'm about 15 months post-op with the last 7-1/2 months in maintenance. I exercise 5 days per week. And I seem to maintain right now around 1500-1700 calories per day. Because of my exercise intensity, I can lose if I cut back to 1200 calories. If I didn't exercise I'm sure it would be more like 1000 calories per day.
If I had ever thought I could only eat 600-800 calories for the rest of my life I would never have even contemplated this surgery - yikes!

I'm 5'1" and am currently 104 lbs. My happy range is 100-103 (so I'm struggling mightily with some regain now). When maintaining, I eat about 1200-1500 cals per day, and if I have more than 60 carbs I'll see a gain the next day. I have been in maintenance for 2 years.

I am 5'3" 56 years old. I exercise 45 minutes 4 times a week I am 1 !/2 years post op and have been at goal since last December. I eat between 1500 and 1700 calories a day. I aim for 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. Today I weighed 144, my happy weight is 141 to 142. Just got back from vacation with a couple extra. To get it off I have eliminated grains. I hate to admit it because I enjoy whole grains, but I have been a lot more satisfied with a higher protein, lower carb diet this week. Might need to rethink things a bit.

I'm RNY, not VSG. I'm a 6'3" male, 54 years old, two years post surgery. I've been at a rock steady 185 for over a year, with a 2 pound fluctuation up or down. I don't exercise, but do a lot of physically demanding work, and get my 10,000 steps every day.
My average calories for the past year are almost 2,700 per day. If I put on 2 pounds I cut back to 2,000 for a week and I get back below my goal. I'm pretty much a lacto-carnivore, so get plenty of dense protein and fats, and carbs are always low.
Surgery was the best thing I've ever done.
6'3" tall, male.
Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.
I run about 1200 calories NET of exercise. I'm 2.25 years out, intentional exercise (hard/aerobic) runs 500-1000c /day, I don't count steps or other light non-intentional exercise in that. So I'm usually consuming in the 1800-2300c range.... I log just about everything I eat and all my exercise.
I flex up for endurance events and have taken in as much as 4000c in a day... usually burning 5000+ so those big eating days usually end up net negative calorie-wise.
I tend toward higher protein/fat and lower carbs but with my workout regimen, I need some carbs for the longer workouts and events so I'm more flexible than I was early on.
My weight has gone up 10 lbs over the past 18 month or so, but my body fat has stayed low - around 10-12%- so it seems that I'm adding muscle through my workout regime. Which makes sense - I should not be adding fat at the calorie consumption I'm at.
