2 weeks Post-OP and not losing?!

I had my surgery on July 30th.  The morning of surgery my weight was 287.4 and a few days after surgery I was up to 294.  I figured that was from the IV fluids and swelling so I ignored it.  As of this morning my weight is 284.4.  How is this possible? It's been 2 weeks and I've only lost 3 pounds?!

I'm getting in between 40-60 oz of fluids per day and around 80g of protein each day.  My carbs is always under 40g daily and I'm only able to get in around 600 cals per day.  I am walking although I suppose I could be walking more now that I'm not as sore as I was week 1.  What am I doing wrong? I'm seeing posts where people are losing 20lbs in the first 2 weeks and I feel like I'm screwing this all up somehow.  I did diet for a couple months before surgery and during the pre-op diet I lost about 15 pounds so I've lost basically all my weight so far before I even had surgery.

You are not screwing up! Keep drinking and getting your protien in. I know my plan was less than 10g of sugar per meal. I drank milk for my protien, which counted as my sugars and used a zero cal protien shake. Hang in there.

I'm 2 weeks post op and have lost 20.  My plan was clear liquids the first week and full liquids the second week.  My carbs are usually under 20.  My calorie intake is usually about 400.  I don't know if that is helpful at all, but I thought I would share in case it is.  Also, I gained one day, but it was that time of the month and I usually gain then.  Maybe hormones have something to do with your struggle too.  I'm sure it will get better!

hmm.  I've been on full liquids since my 2nd day home from the hospital and my surgeon cleared me to start pureed foods after 1.5 weeks.  But maybe I'll try lowering my carbs to under 20 and see if that helps.  Thanks.

Do a search on here regarding a stall around week 3. It is very typical. Remember it is not just three weeks since surgery but since you started losing weight rapidly, so your pre-op diet counts. Someone reminded me of that and it helped me get through that time period without worrying so much.  Just stick with your plan and the weight will keep dropping off, even though there will appear to be some lulls.  Best wishes in your journey!

I had my surgery on 7/28 and I've lost 18lbs so far which to me is kinda scary that I lost that much already. I was on full liquids up until a few days ago. I have started now on puréed foods but I can't really eat that much in one sitting so I'm barely getting in about 450 cal a day and honestly I'm not even counting carbs or fat I'm just focused on trying to eat! But one thing I'll tell you is don't compare yourself with anyone else or what you've read. We're all different and lose and different rates. I had to learn in these 2 wks to be patient. We'll get to our goals eventually. Hang in there!

It looks like I'm eating more calories than most at my stage.  I will add that even though I'm on pureed foods I'm still drinking 2 protein shakes a day to make sure I get my protein in.  Is 600 cals a day too much?

For the first 10 days post op, my doctor was more concerned with my hydration than protein and carbs so I was on clear liquids. He then switched me to liquids for 2 weeks whi*****luded creamed soups. It wasn't until 6 weeks post op that I was able to have actual food, and they were pureed. Every doctor is different and everyone's experience is different. As stated above, you can't compare yourself with others on here or you'll drive yourself crazy! Unfortunately, there are some similarities that everyone has, you will experience stalls! And it seems like they last forever...but they will pass. Just stick to your doctors plan, don't rush things, and get in your fluids. Good luck to you!
