Dining out
I'm 8 weeks out and have gone to restaurants at least twice, and have gotten takeout a few other times.
First time, I was about 5 weeks out and I ordered "the insides of carnitas tacos" and had a bite of guacamole. Especially so early out, I can't imagine having room for tortillas (if you choose to eat them, which I don't). It provided three delicious meals for me. Second time, we had prime rib. No problems either time. I find it easier to pace myself in a group setting, actually.
Be prepared for servers to be a little confused. I make special requests and then barely touch my meal!

I have to eat out on a regular basis due to traveling for work. In the beginning it can be a little scary, but in time you'll be used to making whatever changes are necessary.
A few tips I use (one is mentioned in a posting above):
- Your thumb is approx the size of an ounce of protein. When you plate arrives cut a few ounces of the protein and focus on eating that first.
- Often I'll tell the wait staff to leave off the starch because I really don't want to be tempted.
- reviewing the menu before you get to the restaurant is a great option, but often times difficult to make happen. (In my case traveling with clients this can be a challenge)
-Realize that most restaurants will be happy to leave off sauces, not use oil/butter, etc....all you have to do is ask!
Good Luck on your journey!
