How long before incisions close.

My surgery was 9/23 and on the 28th, I opened one of the incisions. I called the clinic and they said to clean it with water and tape gauze over it. Well it is still oozing and draining and itchy. I called the clinic today and I have an appointment tomorrow so the nurse can look at it to make sure it isn't infected. Has anyone else had issues with incisuons not healing?

The one above my belly button popped open soon after surgery. I used steri strips to close it. All my other incisions healed and you can't see them. This one is still noticeable, but not terribly so.

Can I get steristrips at the drugstore? I will try anything at this point. My waistband is rubbing on it and it's making me crazy :(

Mines healed kinda quickly but the one on belly button is still in its rare form even tho the sterile strip came off the first day at home

Glad yours are healing well. 3 of mine are completely closed. The bellybutton one looks almost healed but it still is tender. 

9 weeks out and I STILL have the one by my belly button that is not fully closed. It will pop open a bit, especially when my clothes rub it. According to my surgeon (who I had inspect my incisions every time I visited) as long as it is not infected I am OK. He said it will heal from inside first and that is exactly what is happening.

I don't suggest band-aids b/c it will leave the area moist. He suggested I used gauze to keep my clothes from rubbing it. Make sure the area is clean and dry and keep your eye on it for any changes.

Yes the gauze seems to keep it dry, but the tape is pulling off layers of skin :(

I used the wrong tape. I am allergic to latex and forgot to get latex free tape. Ugh, itchy!!! So, I put the gauze on and put the band-aids on an angle (the band-aids I had in the latex free form) to keep it in place. No band-aid was over my incision...just to keep the gauze from moving.

The waistband may be part of the culprit. Do you have a loose dress you can use instead? If clothing is rubbing against the incision that could cause it to keep opening and not heal correctly.

Thanks greensleeved, I will try that. Hopefully it will start healing before work on Monday.
