Fitbit Miscalculation?

I find that plain old walking isn't enough to register as "very active". Which is fair, because walking ISN'T very active. I find that running on the treadmill or using the elliptical at a running-type pace will generally register the entire time as active minutes, but walking, even brisk walking, only registers at a fraction of what I was doing. I have had a Flex for a year.

When I walk in place, kick and do some aerobic activities to try and get my 10,000 steps in, it registers the correct amount of time I work out. Strange...

Hmm not so sure about the fitbit not registering or under logging active minutes under walking. I find it records it as active minutes whenever I walk a brisk walk for a certain amount of minutes, usually a half hour or more. The time, I didn't match it to what fitbit said. I know what I did.

I could do light bike riding at the gym & it'll register as active minutes even though it doesn't feel as active as when I was walking. Besides who cares what fitbit says, you know what you did, that's what counts! Keep it up!

You are so right, I know how long I was active, even if the technology doesn't LOL :)

Exactly the same thing happens to me. Yesterday I did 7 minutes on a rower and 5 minutes on an elliptical and my FitBit only registered it as 1 active minute. I guess we will just have to resolve that we know better.

Depending which fitbit you have, it will register active or very active minutes. It all depends on how intese you are working. I just got the fit*****arge HR and it does active minutes. It has to do with MET's. It will not consider the incline on the treadmill as intensity, only the speed.

Thanks Dawn for this post. I am wanting to buy an active monitor and was asking for everyone's experience/input.

Remember that the fitbit Flex is only a Pedometer.   I find that mine is a little over counting (Activity not steps) for example when i walk i use Map my Walk on my phone. And i am currently doing about 40-45 min of a very brisk pace.  The App has a start and stop button, so for my times i know what i am doing. Fit Bit always is about 15min long.  Also,i found that when i changed my stride length in the Fit Bit Profile,it became a lot more accurate.   The Device uses acceleratomaters  (SP)   to measure your steps...so when ridding a bike.. its not going to give you to much in the count of steps.

Just my 2 cents...I got mine for xmas and use it as a game  and it keeps motivated.
