Has anybody on here gotten lap band in Washington that self-paid for it? I'm trying to get an idea of what the cost will be. I was thinking I should just go to Mexico since it's so much cheaper, but my family thinks it's a good idea to get it done right where I'm at for post-op reasons. Any ideas? Thanks!

Oh wow- that's shocking actually. I figured it would be more like $20,000. Is there a discount for self-pay?

I paid about 15,800 for mine. I'd call around the state first and find out who does it for what price-- and in researching to have it done out of the country-- you should research the price of fills here in WA when you return Michelle

Thanks for the advice. I've been researching lap-band for 5 years and have decided that I just need to do it now. I'm self-pay because I have no insurance, and am able to finance thanks to my dad's awesome credit! So what is my first step to making this a reality?

The price I told you before was the self pay price . Something else you need to find out is : if you go to Mexico , is there a doctor here who would be willing to do your fills ? I've heard of people having trouble with that . Alot of doctors don't like filling out of country bands . Let us know what you find out . Kathy

Oh yea, I know what you meant. I was just wondering if it was that inexpensive because it was self-pay instead of insurance. I know surgeons tend to charge more when insurance is involved because insurance companies will pay it. So when you say that it cost $12,000 for your surgery- do you mean for the entire thing, or just the surgeon fees? Thanks so much for you help! It's scary starting out and not having any idea what I'm doing. Everyone's comments help so much!

I just had lap band surgery with Dr. Oh on May 2nd. The price was 12800. There are several pre op tests which add to the cost but if you have insurance it should cover those . Fills are $195.The first one is included in the 12800. Since the surgery I have had 2 fills, I am currently at 2.6 cc's which feels nearly perfect. One thing I really liked was that he wasnt afraid to give a fill. I hear of cases where fills are very small and it takes 5 or 6 to get any restriction. I have lost 41 pounds so far and dont regret it at all. A friend went to Mexicali Mexico and paid 8200. plus airfare She did fine and is having her fills done by Dr Cheblis, he is in North Seattle I think. I was afraid if I had complications a doctor in Mexico wouldnt do me much good, but it is a personal choice, saving money or convenience. Good Luck to you, you will do fine no matter which you choose! Donna C

Hey There- I'm getting my lap band done by Dr. Michealson at NWWLS in Everett. Total cost is 16,900. that includes 3-6 fills, and all of my care and follow ups for a year. I'm also doing self pay, cause I just want it done so bad.
