Surgery Cost

Does anyone know of a surgeon in North Carolina that will accept any or all insurances? I am trying so hard to have this surgery. It is apparent that this is a money making business for the surgeons. I was all set up with my pre-op required appointments and went to the second one on Friday only to find out that the hospital that the surgeon used would not accept my insurance because the surgeon no longer accepted our insurance. We would need to come up with $5,000 for the hospital cost. I am very discouraged and down hearted right now. There is a bariatric surgeon coming to where I live to work with some local surgeons teaching them how to do the laprascopic gastric by-pass technique. Guess what is required to have this surgery? $17,000 up front, no insurance accepted. I really feel for the people in this area that need and would like the opportunity to have his surgery. I'm sure it will be totally out of reach for most of them. I have done lots of research on line and so many surgeons are wanting all their money up front or only take certain insurances. Any help would be appreciated.

Candy, I don't know who you were going to or where Sophia, NC is, but Dr. Eno*****ary seems to be excellent. There are some surgeons that do require a downpayment up front but Dr. Enoch doesn't. As far as I know he accepts all insurance too. Hope this helps. Debra

Candy, I too am a little nerbvous about insurance. I have an appointment with Dr. Enoc on August 21. I did speak with Cindy in his office and she told me to gather all the information I could from any of my doctors, and have them write a letter stating the importance of me getting the surgery. I also contacted my PCP and they are going to write a letter for me along with the information I can gather about my weight loss history, medical history, etc. I may get denied, but I will keep on trying. I have been of HBP meds for about six years now, osteoarthritis, post heel surgery and now need left knee replacement. I also have degenerative disc dx. in my lower back. I heard about Dr. Enoch from the message board. So, my advice is call them and tell them you read about him online in the wls postings. They are so nice and will tell you what you need to do..and don't be afraid to ask! Say a prayer for me and I will do the same for you! Good luck and let me hear from you. Kathy

Hi I know where sophia is lol i used to live there....anyway...who was the original surgeon? I am going to Dr Grant in Durham and he is excellent. As far as that "other" doctor goes...DONT THINK ABOUT IT!! He does a 'mini' bypass that takes 15 minutes...and its very dangerous. the reason insurance wont pay for it is because they know its dangerous. I know people who have gone to this surgeon and have suffered major metabolic problems..because of it. Go with the RNY or Lap band they are proven to be much safer and more reliable...if u need to talk email [email protected] live close to you and visit sophia quite often...good luck

use to really be into it but my life got crazy and I lost touch with me and I've forgotten so much . it's the only religion I've ever felt at home with why I let it get so lost I don't know . well its also hard as I'm sure you know when you have no one around to talk to or help you learn. but I'm at a point in my life I'm ready to start over.

Hi, I'm not sure exactly where you are, but i'm sure you would.nt mind a little driving to save 17,000 anyway My surgeon is Dr. Cook in Hickory NC and he accepts all insurances, even medicaid. I also know of a great surgeon in Fayettville that my sister used. He also accepts any kind of insurance. Email me if you want, I'm pre-op too and could use all the friends I can get! Oh BTW, if it's \Dr. Rutledge in Statsville you were mentioning, Count your blessings your not using him! I have no personal experiance with him, his staff seems nice as can be, but I've heard horror stories like you would'nt believe with that mini bypass!!! my email is [email protected] hope these Dr.s can help you, and I would be happy to try to find you some more (I'm a telemarketor so hopping on the phone and calling a thousand Dr.s would be childs play ) . God bless!!
