What is YOUR dumping experience like??????

Dunno about the "mean" dump but when my blood sugar gets low or crashes (was on insulin for 6 years pre-WLS), I am one UGLY American - that's for sure. Ex-hubby learned to *feed me* regularly. LOL! I've dumped on weird things.... Outback salmon and sauce (mayo based) and I don't have issues with fat at all. I emailed them... no sugar. I dumped on liquid B complex that was sweetened with apple juice concentrate. I dumped on carafate liquid (ulcer med) which does have some sugar in it... just don't know how much. And early post-op a few bites of dry high protein, low sugar cereal. I didn't know what I was feeling was dumping until my surgeon said it was. My entire belly gets sore. It is almost as if my intestinal tract becomes aglow (I mentally think about a hamster's habitrail... LOL!) and just plain hurts. My abdomen will literally hurt to the touch. I did seem to have to sleep the pain away. Very strange. I have not crossed the *sugar* line yet. Been 13 months since surgery and before that my 3 months pre-op diet so 16 months basically sugar-free except for trace amounts. Sugar is just a place I cannot go. I feel like I should stand up like at an AA meeting and say... Hi, my name is Kathy and I'm a sugar-o-holic. I've been sober 16 months. Nice to see ya! Kathy

Dear Kathy, REPEAT AFTER ME.. "Sugar is NOT all that! I do not need sugar!" With your mindset, you'll ever eat sugar again! I sure wish I hadn't!!!! xoox Candy

Hi Candy, I am out 4.5 yrs and still dump. I avoid sugar at all cost. I even have to watch natural sugar. One to many mini carrots which is more than 5, I dump. Go figure. Then with a gluten intolerance I can get really sick that I want to die,God knows what would happen if I had sugar and wheat together. The death of me would be a crispy creame anything. I've gotten sick on so many natural foods I avoid at all cost putting anything into my mouth that I know I have a reaction to. Lettuce is still something I miss but I get so sick on it. I gave up trying to add it at all to my eating plan. DQ

HI DQ!!! Thanks for the comments..... I had trouble with lettuce early on but I could swallow a whole head of it now and have no problem. It's tough enough to miss the stuff that is bad for you... but to not be able to eat the good things for you.. Hope there are alot of things you can eat and enjoy xoxo Candy

it sounds like you are having rebound hypoglycemia, and if that happens eat protein - with a small amount of a complex carb, peanut butter on a whole wheat bread, milk, yogurt, chees. NOT more sugar no matter how much you crave it, you will just continue to roller coaster. I am usually able to do well with moderation. I plan a treat into my daily calorie count, so am able to do that with out gaining. I am usually pretty careful with my calorie count staying with in 1500-1700 a day and do exercise very regularly. the only time i have a problem with it is if I am very depressed or if I am feeling pressures about my weight. If I feel that pressure at the time I want to and have binged. using the book, "How Much Does Your Soul Weigh?" by Dorie McCubbrey has been worth its weight in gold in learning to deal with head issues and yes, work to become normal. She is recovered from and eating disorder and works with people who have eating disoorders so they can become normal. don't be so hard on yourself, you amy be more normal than you think you are ! I can and do dump, but it varies, If I eat a small amount of sugar on an empty stomach, say in the early am, I get full fledged dumping, cramps, bloating diahrea, nausea, hot flashes and racing heart. If It is later in the day, and I have protein in my system failry recently I dont dump on small amounts and may even tolerat quite a bit of sugar. At that point the worst that will happen is feeling a little warm and sleepy.
