Kidney stones
We had a kidney doc come speak at our support group this past week. You may want to do a web search on oxalates in the diet. Those are foods that should be limited and could contribute to stones.
To try to avoid them... you need to make sure you get lots of water in each day and also.. mix 2 oz of lemon juice (can use the bottled "Real Lemon") with water and drink it twice a day. The citric acid from the lemon juice will help avoid the stones.
Kathy
I ended up passing quite a few of them about 5 months post op. I was told to drink drink drink and drink. Keeping yourself hydrated keeps them away! If I don't get in at least 32oz water, I get them. I was told that due to the high protein intake and that it is hard on your kidneys. I hope you're feeling better soon!
Thank you for the replis, this is what i found
"Calcium oxalate stones may also form in people who have a chronic inflammation of the bowel or who have had an intestinal bypass operation, or ostomy surgery. As mentioned above, struvite stones can form in people who have had a urinary tract infection. People who take the protease inhibitor indinavir, a drug used to treat HIV infection, are at risk of developing kidney stones."
Well I never knew it was a risk of bypass surgery....but i would still do it again.
