can't eat meat now?
Hey
i am 14 months post op, and all of the sudden i can't eat meat, when i do, it only takes 2 bites and my stomach hurts and i throw it back up... but other foods go down ok, like soups, potatoes.. crackers.. was wondering if i had a stricture or if this is something "normal" people go thru. any advice will help.
Thanks Tammy
Tammy... I am 16 months out and I have very hard time with meat ........I am just hoping its a phase .. I have seen my Dr this week and w e discussed it ... Every thing seems to be great except for the meat .... The other thing I cant eat is raw veggies they come up also ... So your not alone ... Please let me know what your Dr says .... I think everyone is different my tummy is so sensitive to texture and I think that is the meat & raw veggie thing.....
Hey Tammy -
I tend to agree with Connie - talk to your surgeon about it.
While we are all different and experience post-op issues differently, your body's sudden aversion to meat at 14 months post-op is worth checking in to a little further.
It's probably nothing - but worth the piece of mind to find out why it's happening all of the sudden.
Keep us posted!!
Hugs!

Just when you thought you had the ole pouch figured out huh? Sorry to make light of it, I'm not really. I usually do just fine with meats, but last Saturday my sister made this killer roast beef dinner and I ate just about 4 bites of the meat and got SO sick! I do fine with ground beef, chicken, shrimp, fish but this was my first attempt (16 mo out) at a beef like that, and I still haven't tried steak. Can we say chicken??? I just today made some beef enchiladas and baked them, was a little leary but felt fine after I ate them, well half of one anyway. I think our pouches are the most fickle little things on earth! I saved my other half of the enchilada for tomorrow's dinner, and that's scarry too cuz today it was fine, yet tomorrow it might give me all H#LL!
It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor. Good luck to you, I hope you feel better and get some answers! Jeanne :)

It is more unusual to get a stricture this far out but certainly not unheard of. Also, it could be an ulcer. I'd go see your surgeon and get to a gastroenterologist to get an EGD to see what is going on in there!
I'm 22 months post-op and hubby is 2.5 years post-op and meat works well for us both.
Good luck, Kathy

I'm agreeing with my friend Kathy on this one. When I had an ulcer, meat and I didn't agree. It happened almost overnight. About te only thing I could eat was cooked veggies, soups and carbs. It sucked. Once I got on meds and started healing, I could eat some meat. chicken and me still have a battle of Wills" with chicken winning about 1 out of every 3 times. So I avoid it. I do good with lean beef and shrimp and I pretty much stick with those. See you're doc. Maybe a Gastro Doc and get an endoscope done and see what's going on.

I have not been able to eat any meat except prime rib one time in very very small (eraser sized) bites, I can say there is no meat I can eat except maybe vienna sausages, and they dont work too well either, I am strictly a bean girl, not really I eat other things just no meat , getting sick is no fun .
