You may already know this, but ethnic skin tends to form keloid scars.
If he the doc can't find an obvious cause of the hardness, ask if he thinks it may be the beginning of one of these.
Does not hurt, but just noticed that skin is a little darker than the rest. Anyone else. Don't worry, still going to call the doc in the morning.
