Cheese Crackers are the DEVIL!!!

They seem to scream my name in the grocery store, and I can't(won't....don't feel like it!) step away from them.  About 1 year post-op, I started have some issues with shakiness a couple hours after meals, so the nut I saw recommended carrying the small pkg of crackers with me, just to balance me out.  It worked really well.  Then, I got STUPID and started playing russian roulette with 'em.  They became my mid-morning or afternoon snack when I subbed at school.  I was up at the schools more than at home, crackers showed up in my purse daily, MORE pkg.'s showed up daily, and I'm now up to 3 packs/day.  I have gained about 5-8#, and can attribute it directly to those D@*N  orange-colored devils!

"I'll start adding a scoop of protein to my morning drink....up my protein, that should help me get this under control, start to lose the re-gain."  Good idea....if I also stepped away from the cellophane package of doom.  These crackers are not MY friend, since PCOS is my lifemate.  My 12 y/o daughter told me to step away from the CRACK...I jokingly corrected her, "It's crackERS!"  "No, Mom, it's your CRACK!  You're addicted to them, find a 12-step program!"  While she was joking about the program, she was serious about the addiction.  She has been an eyewitness to the devastating health effects PCOS can put a body through.  While I was blessed to easily conceive my 3 blessings, my BP, cholesterol, insulin levels, etc, spiralled out of control, contributing to the need for this surgery.  She knows the long road ahead for her IF she follows in my former nutritional footsteps.  Being metaphorically slapped in the face by my own daughter has been more of a wake-up call than the scale.   We had a cracker-destroying ceremony this morning.  We took a mallet and a hammer from DH's toolbox and pounded the living daylights out of my last pkg of crackers.  We're heading out to the farmer's market right now.  I need to get some good veggie-carbs for snacks this week and beyond! Sorry the msg is so long, I needed to vent! Julie

Julie, although I am sitting here rolling at the way you described your problem, I feel for ya!......Good luck hon! The first step is admitting you have a problem, do they have cracker addiction anonymous?  I'm just kidding! Maybe some soy crisps? Or cheese, or something like that? Not sure if you're craving the crunchiness or what....You can do this! Dede

I gotta crack jokes about it...or cry!  It's the crunch factor, definitely.  I used to nuke cheese into a cheese "chip"....I'm thinking that might be one avenue for snack time.  Thanks  for the encouragement. Julie

I did the same thing, and noticed that I can eat a pack of those pnut butter crackers, the plain kind, not the cheese ones.  I also can eat a granola bar now too, and no side effects. I haven't been to the bathroom in like 3 days, so it says I have gained 4 lbs, but as soon as my milk of magnesia kicks in, it will go back down. I know I cannot even cheat a little bit or it will turn into pounds.  It sucks now that you know you can slip up and eat some things with sugar, etc... I am having my morning coffee now, and getting ready to go get some breakfast, I think in the form of protein shake.  I really want eggs and turkey bacon though, so I might do that, but its back off the carbs again. :) Carbs are the devil!!!!! Good Luck, and me too!!!  We need to take control now!! :) Deb

Wow! I thought I was alone in the cracker thingy. I don't know what it is. The need for crunch.. the consistency. UGH... they have been my downfall. Cracker, pretzals, animal crackers. I try to limit myself... but no matter how full I am.. I seem to be able to top a meal off with a handful of something dry. How do we overcome this?

After  reading  this posting  I  think  there could  be a Cracker board .... :-)  I  would have to say  that  Wheat Thins  low  fat  crackers  is  my  comfort food  or  addiction  food or  my  devil  what  ever  we  want  to  call  them ...  When  I  open  a  box  I  count  out  each   serving and  put them in  the  snack  bags  .Then place  all  the  snack  bags  back  in  the  box . If  I  don't  do  this  way  I  find  my  self  grazing  on  wheat  theins  all  afternoon ..... So  when  I   do  need  that  crunch snack  all  I   get  is one  serving  ... This  has  worked  well  for  me  ..  I  want  to  thank each  of  you  for  posting  on  this  topic  when  discussing  the  cracker  issue  with  people  not  on this  forum  they  thought  I  was  crazy  ..  I  am  glad  we  can  share  the  issues  we  deal  with in  every  day  life  and  know  that  there  is  someone  else  out  there  that  understands,,,,    Hope  everyone  has a good day , Tami

I'll be a WLS grad in 2 weeks (yippee) and I've been researching reasons for regain, and the #1 problem I found was eating crackers through fhe day, especially sitting at your desk at work. And there I was, eating a pack of crackers. We keep a supply in the kitchen at work and I have a hard time resisting them. But I'm going to try real hard. :)
