Sorry to be Debbie Downer, but, GOAL IS NOT important. Its how you feel. if I had a nickel for every time I asked can I make goal while I was post-op, Id be a millionaire.
I started out at 305, I got to 173. I wanted to be 150. Its 5 yrs on 8-15, think of how far you've come. The number on the scale is JUST A NUMBER.
Yes, I have to agree with Heather...it is just a number. However, I know how you feel.
I've been stuck since 9 months post-op. I weigh 138 now, so, it does appear that I've finally gotten out of the 140 range which I was at since December. My goal is 130 though and I'm not there.
Of course, my doctor's goal is 120, and I know that I will most likely never achieve that, but, I'm happy with my maintenance and that I have changed my way of life. I do protein first and get my liquids in and am really diligent about what I eat. I consider myself a success....something new for me considering all the dieting that I did pre-op (that never worked).
Now, if I really want to reach my goal, I've gotta use this great tool and exercise!!!
I have not exercised since the surgery (no flames please!)
That will be my key to successfully reaching goal (or maybe not, I am really a muscle bound person and I may just gain a few pounds of muscle, LOL)
I've decided to finally commit to exercise, so, hopefully, that will make the difference.
Are you okay with where you are now? Is there anything you can do to get the scale moving again? Add more protein, up the water, exercise more?
I know it is a bummer to have to "diet" again, since, we were all such "pros" at it pre-op, but, with this tool, "dieting" should be so much easier post-op (with the smaller pouch, less amount to achieve the full feeling)
I wish you the best of luck.
I really think you can achieve the goal you want if you focus on it. At the same time, if you can be at peace with yourself at a different weigh (slightly higher), then, why not consider revising your goal and lift the burden from yourself?
Again, good luck and keep us posted!!!
Hugs,
Karen
Hi RieRie, just wanted to let you know my February Board friend that you are not alone!! I haven't made goal either. Personally, I dont' like the word "goal". It makes me wonder what will happen to me after I reach it? Quite frankly, I'm just happy when I don't gain. Now that I've got my period back (hadn't had one for 4 years prior to surgery) I eat like a madwoman the week before it. Eventually I know I'll be in the vicinity of the number the doc gave me (I'm 11lbs shy) and I'll do my best to stay "in the vicinity". Right now, I'm going to research this "time out" business and see if I can't tweak myself a little. Care to join me????
