Gall Bladder?

I know I should see a doctor, but living in Singapore where RNY is only performed for stomach cancer, I like to have a few ideas before I go see someone. Anyway, on occasions, and it doesn't seem to be particularly related to what I eat, I get the most awful pain. It is just below my sternum and feels like burning. Its NOT dumping or food stuck (I know those Very well) I have had a barium x-ray and no ulcers etc - nothing abnormal on my pouch, but caused a bit of a stir in the x-ray dept as it was the smallest pouch they had ever seen - apparently! Anyway, what does it feel like when you have gallbladder problems? The pain does eventually go away and probably occurs every couple of months or so and lasts a couple of hours. Any ideas or experiences? Thanks Kim

My husband had his gallbladder removed a few years back, and his symptoms were a lot like yours. Sometimes he thought he was having a heart attack. He eventually had a lot of pain in his back, too. He had lap surgery and only missed about a week from work. Hope you're OK.

Kim, I won't repeat what the others have posted but it does sound like a gall bladder problem. But there really is a greater issue than pain with gall stones. The big ones just bounce around in there and cause excruciating pain. The little ones, however, can also block bile ducts leading into your liver and cause some real problems - but trust me, you'll know if that happens. It isn't subtle or painless. You really need to have an ultrasound to find out. The surgery, as already pointed out, really isn't too awful. Good luck. Hope you feel well. Judi

Thank you for the advice. I have to go to the doctor this week for my B12, so I'll get him to schedule an ultrasound. Kim
