Iron Transfusions
Frankie lee I first want to wish you the best of luck. And hope you only need a few iron infusion and you start feeling better after your treatment. For my nitemare started back on 4-5-07. Feeling tired and cold all of the time. Only to find out that. I had a low blood count, low blood pressure and a very low iron count. So I was given three units of red packed cells.Sent to a dr at the rcc who deals with blood disorders. In which I was given piggy packs before my iron infussion of deckatron to help with the swallon and other reactions I had due to the. iron. Yess before each infussion I have to have blood work done to see where my levels are Plus for me I had them three times a week for the last three months. Now they are jus****ching my blood levels to see when I have to have more infussion. My dr at the rcc has me takeing 500mg of vit c before. I take my regular iron twice a day. He feels that the vit c will help the iron stay in the body longer when you do this. The iron treatments lasted a hour and half but with the other piggy backs they gave me and the blood work. It equal out to a three and a half hour day at the center.IMO do I feel better some weeks I do other days no but then again those are the weeks that my blood count is off and needs help during the bad weeks. Again I wish you the best of luck. No it does not hurt and the iv's are aat room temp when they give them to you. Plus when I get mine they wait till I am in the chair before they mix the iron infussion before giving it tome. Pluse the take vitalsigns before and after each treatments.Taichi
