DS Graduates - How are you doing long term?
Slammin' ... Thanks for asking! I'm almost 3 years out. Had a 10-lb weight gain over an 8 month period from the Mirena IUD and it was impossible to lose. I thought I broke my DS!! But I had the darn thing taken out after I discovered a huge breast mass (1"x3") that was also traced to its evil hormones wreaking havoc in my body.
After my first er menses post removal (that's right, you're a guy so I'll spare you but this really is a "woman thing"), the weight literally flew off my body, along with the evil hormones and I'm back to a size 2 jean without the stretch and size 0 with. Gotta love the tool!
My protein is gorgeous at 100g almost daily; at 51 I have rebuilt muscle and tone in my body that I'd never even imagined was possible. I eat 5-6x a day approx 6-8oz each "feeding." I stay low carb because I like it that way but I don't fear healthy carbs; I just eat them with a lot of fat since most of us forever malabsorb 80% of our fat intake. That way I have no deleterious effects from the carb intake (no gas or diarrhea).
I prefer SF sweets because sugar is an addictive thing to me but if I choose to have a sugar dessert when I'm at a party, I make sure I eat it on an-almost-full stomach so I couldn't overdo even if I wanted to.
Hope this helps. Good luck and G-d bless!

I'm nearly 3 years out too. Stuck at 132-135 no matter what I do. I eat at least 6 times a day and concentrate on protein first at each meal. Other than that, I eat whatever I want to eat, but the quantities are less than they used to be. When I'm bad, I'm very bad: brownies, cookies, beer (not together), bagels, pie, ice cream, etc. sometimes a few bad choices in one day. Not every day, but once or twice a week. But no weight gain, just more active bowels (usually not that big a deal for me). I'm more active than I was when I was fat and I often walk for a half an hour, but not daily. I find I'm eating healthier, because that's what appeals to me. I eat more vegetables and lean meats, by choice. That doesn't mean I don't have a handful of french fries or fritos now and then. I eat with my always-thin friends and we usually eat about the same things about the same quantity. I take a dozen vitamins a day, but it's part of my routine now. I check my nutrient levels every 6 months and make adjustments based on that. Nothing that couldn't be fixed with tweaking the regimen. I lost my diabetes but developed hypoglycemia, so I have to keep an eye on that (happens with all WLS to some people). The flatulence is a pain sometimes and embarrassing sometimes, but finding out I was lactose intolerant helped with that somewhat. I've been a size 4/6 for a while now, but that doesn't mean I don't keep a few size 10/12 in my closet, because in the back of my mind I think I'll regain, just like every other diet I was on. But it hasn't happened yet and I'm beginning to trust that it won't happen. The best part is the release from hunger. I don't crave foods or feel that I am starving or feel that I would break down a door to get something to eat.
