Plateau, sick, or am I done losing?
Hi all,
I am almost 18 months out from lap RNY. Haven't lost an ounce since 7/27. Haven't gained either. Tried rigourously adding protein as I had been slacking, still doing vitamins and hydrating. I did come down with mono right at that time and am finally feeling good again. Obviously the mono did lower my activity level. I did have a full nutritional blood work up and everything looked right.
So my question is, am I done losing the easy way? Or is it because I was sick? I started at 298 and am at 152 now, BMI of 25.3, 17 lbs to goal. Obviously my weight does flicker up and down 2-3 lbs or so as I cycle etc, but always comes back to the same point in a day or two, regardless of what I do (good or bad).
I would say that youare probably through losing "the easy way". Of course being sick does have some affect... Not exercising as vigorously has an affect...
My advise is just to keep doing what you know to do (protein, veggies, vitamins, etc) and the weight will continue to come off, albeit much slower than in the past. As long as you take in LESS calories than you take off with exercise, you WILL lose weight.

hallow! am 19 months out since my wls, and i have not lost or gained a pound since january, so its been about 9 mnths, what am doing differently is increasing my protein and my cals. intake and am still working out and drinking water so its been about 3 weeks so next week i will weigh myself and will see if it made a different. all the best, keep it up.it will fall off.
I'm 23 months out, so a little bit further out from my surgery date than you. I also started out much heavier than you (396 pounds) and still have a BMI in the obese category (31.5). I've had a couple 2-month periods where I didn't lose, but other than that I'm still losing 2-3 pounds per month. I will say that you are probably done losing the easy way. For me, it's now all about long-term moderation in my diet and continuing to exercise regularly. It also takes me a lot longer to lose a pound now because my daily calorie intake is much closer to my daily calorie output. So I'm satisified with losing 2-3 pounds per month, even if it means it'll take me another 8-10 months to reach my final goal. I could definitely lose faster if I was willing to be more restrictive about what I eat, but I'd rather finish taking off the weight nice and slow so that I know what I'll need to do to maintain when I'm done.
Good luck on your continuing journey -
Kellie
