Bad, Bad, Bad gas pains..

Okay, this happened about a month ago.. I all of a sudden, and for several days got bad, bloating, pinching painful gas that would not pass. It starts up near my ribcage and then spreads (does not move down..actually spreads) to my lower intestines. Its hard to stand up straight and i'm in constant fear of 'tooting" , although nothing seems to be moving.  its like a cup of Rocks have been put into my intestines and are bouncing around in there.  It came back last night, completely unexpetedly and woke me up out of a sound sleep. I took the meds the doc gave me last time to get rid of the bloating..and although its a bit better this AM, i'm still all bloated up. I wonder if I took too much fiber?? or maybe I'm not eating enough green, leafy veggies..but I'm leaving for Hawaii in 2 days..and this sucks! any ideas?  I'm 1.5 years out of RNY procedure.. and haven't eaten or drank anything that is foreign to me post surgery.. Jess

Hey there, I had gas pains so bad in my lower back that for the longest time, I and my doctor thought I had a pulled muscle in my back.  He put me on muscle relaxers and pain pills.   Now that I know it's gas, I take gas X and the pain is gone.  Like you, I double over, can barely walk, etc.

I've had that kind of gas a couple of times. Just about the time I decide that it might NOT be gas and go to the Emergency Room (yes, the pain is that bad), it passes. The gas x was a good idea...or some other sort of anti-gas medicine. Hope you have a GREAT trip to Hawaii!!! Hugs,  Piggy

I get it so badly that I cannot breathe or stand upright. I walk and walk. I lay on my side with my knees to my chin and I wait. The next day or two I usually have bad bathroom episodes but am so grateful to get rid of it all that I don't care. I, too, take Gas-Ex but it takes a long time (if ever) to really help. It just has to move thru the body. I wish I knew knew what to avoid to help it because I assure you I would never eat  it again. It is soooooo painful and I am six years out and have always followed the post-surgery rules. PS Have fun as I am sure you will have no problems while resting. Perhaps the stress of getting ready for the trip added to the gas. I have IBS and know that stress can do it!!!

I get these bouts of horrific gas pain too. I cannot seem to find a cause either. Gas x helps... but phazyme is MUCH better. cost more but well worth it. I pop a couple  and pretty soon I feel alot better. Rhonda

Jess, I seriously just came to the boards to post this SAME EXACT THING!  I have gas pains sooooo bad right now and nothing it helping them, not even Gas-X.  My stomach feels rock hard ... it's like I can feel every inch of my stomach on the inside and it feels like it's loaded with cement.  It helps to expel some of it but only temporarily because then the pain is right back.  And I haven't eaten anything out of the ordinary today so I have no clue what is causing this!  It happened to me last week but I figured it was the half of a can of diet pepsi I indulged in.  This time I haven't had any soda at all!   But I'm in pain and I can commiserate! Deanna, that souns very, very serious. You should call your surgeon, have you been able to keep food down? My surgeon was concerned about possible Gall Bladder issues, but i've gotten most of the bloating and pain to go down.. I wonder what is up..maybe its just national "gas" day and no one told us.. :)

Hee, hee, National Gas Day ... I love it!!! I haven't called the doctor.  I figured it's just gas because it feels better everytime I let one rip!  Ha, ha!  But then it comes back again and I just have to keep expelling it, I guess!  I took some more Gas-X so hopefully that will calm things down before too long!   I just wish I could figure out what food makes this happen so I could steer clear from it!   Deanna  :)

Well, you can't be to careful...it might be a twisted bowel bowel blockage or internal hernia...I have heard of 2 cases of this in the last month both needed surgery or they would have serious problems. Be sure to let your WLS know about this. Get it checked out.  Hope it is just gas but better to make sure. Cha
