"normal" BMI-how to get rid of the last 25-30lbs?
Hi,
I'm technically still 2.5months away from becoming a WLS graduate but would greatly appreciate any tips/insights from those at goal about how to get rid of those last stubborn lbs.
in short, I'm 5'4; 9 months post op, down from 225lbs to 142lbs. I'm slightly below dr.Goal (144lbs) and my BMI is the 24.8(upper-normal range.). I'm happy with my weight loss so far but still want to loose around 25-30 lbs to get to my personal goal of 115. The problem is even though i eat healthy and try to exercise the scale hasn't moved much in a month. I know it is typical for the weightloss to slow down once you get closer to goal. I REALLY miss the honeymoom period
For those of you at or below goal, how did you tackle those last stubborn pounds?.
I'm 5ft 5 inches. Goal was 125 but I was sure the doctor was way off. Unfortunately, I got down to 120 and then dipped below that to 119 over the weekend. I'm below goal and can't seem to get up to where I should be.
My suggestion to you is to stick with the program..Don't drink with eating. Drink only a half hour to an hour after eating. No sugar, no fatty stuff. I figure my body just decided where it was going and is now there. Hopefully I'll spring up to a more normal weight...BMI of 20 right now and I look thin..Size 2.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Depending on your age and frame, 5' 4" and 115 lbs. may be an unrealistic goal. I'm 5 4.75". My surgeon's goal for me was 152. My personal goal was 144 because that's what I weighed when I met my husband. My body apparently didn't like 144 because here I sit at 130 wearing an XS/girl's XL top and size 2 pants. I did nothing to purposely lose the additional 14 lbs. And just like it's scary to lose control of your body and gain weight. It's scarier to not know why you're losing so much and not be able to gain. I've cut way back on my work outs, added carbs to my diet, etc. in an effort to stabilize my weight.
I just had a tummy tuck and breast lift and even with the swelling, I can put on my size 2s and 4s, so I may be even smaller after I recover. As a 35 year old woman, it's ridiculous trying to find clothes appropriate for the office.
Focus on being healthy. Eat right, exercise, drink your water and take your vitamins. If your body wants to be smaller, it will, but don't set yourself up for disappointment with a possibly unrealistic and unhealthy goal. There's a reason your surgeon has an idea of a good goal weight for you. They don't just pull a number from a hat. They want a long-term, healthy patient.
Blessings, Jennifer

If I were lying, wouldn't my pants be on fire?!?

Thanks for responding. I hope your weight stabilizes soon and that you feel comfortable with whatever your final weight is.
I guess I should clarify that I came up with 115 as a personal goal because up until about 4 years ago my weight fluctuated in the 118-130 range, with me feeling healthiest and most confortable at around 118-120 (and, yes, I was a size 2-4 but am a 6 now). Loosing to 115, while still in the healthy BMI range gets me to where I feel my best and allows a little room for re-gain.
My surgeon explained that he set 144 as a goal just because that puts me in the normal BMI range (just under 25) but he is completely fine with me getting down to as low as 110.
Anyway, this is just to explain how i came up with the goal. i'm not worried about not being able to stop loosing because for me, personally, it is very easy to be able to handle/consume as many as 2000 calories a day, even though i'm only 9 months out so i figure i'll just up my calorie intake if i need to
