Does anybody know anything about bariatric advantage mulit vitamins? How is thier calcium citrate? Is this iron pill safe or will it "back me up" ?
Hello,
I have used Bariatric Advantage chewable vitamins since about 6 months out ( early on I used another but these are less expensive and work just as well for me ), take 2 times a day, morning & early evening...For calcium I prefer chewable and can handle a small amount of sugar so I take Citrical Creamy bites, like getting a little taste of chewy fudge...As for iron, you always have to be careful with iron an constipation, I take Vitron C, has like 200 mg of iron and added calcium to benefit with the absorbsion, as long as a get in 80+ oz water a day don't suffer too much with "back-ups"
I order the vits direct from dealer website on auto ship - get the citrical and iron at Walmart, neither is outrageously expense...

I Just wanted to point out that Vitron C only has 66mg ELEMENTAL iron. Just so you count it correctly. And it has vit C for adied absorption since regular calcium would cancel it out. I think you knew this, but just wrote it wrong.
I love the creamy bites, but since I take many thousands of mg of calcium, that'd be WAY too much sugar in a day.
On the BA's, that form of iron is not my fave, but each person is so different that all you ca do it try it. Personally, I start my bands and proximals on 150mg (elemental) iron, so that would be kinda spendy with the BA's.
Just the reminder: iron is only taken with vit C, never with caffeine, dairy, eggs, whole grains, another other vites, minerals or meds. Alone, together for an hour.

I like Bariatric Advantage multi-vitamins - the berry ones are really good. I used to take Flinstones complete but my iron kept getting too high so switched. I also like a chewable calcium but the ones I like the best are TwinLab Calcium Citrate Chewable Wafers with magnesium and vit D. I use them like a snack at work, 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon - 4 = 1000 mg.

Can you explain this part again. I'm a little confused.
I'm struggling to get my routine down for taking all my meds. So many need to be taken alone.
I take Iron, Calcium, thyroid meds, b-12, b-complex, biotin and multi vits.

Iron & calcium are absorbed by the same mechanism, therefore they compete and calcium ALWAYS wins! So, you must separate sources of iron & calcium by at least an hour. Longer is better.
Tannic acid in caffeinated drinks interfers with the absorption of iron.
There are substances in fiber (found in whole grain products) that bind with iron and cause it to be excreted in the feces.
Just to be on the safe side, I take my iron & vitamin C (this one actually promotes iron absorption!) at night, right before bed. And I make sure that I haven't had any dairy, coffee, or fiber about 2 hours before!
It sure gets complicated, doesn't it????

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I know not to take my iron and calicum together, I didn't know about the caffeine interference or that vit c helps.
I've read the calcium is absorbed better with protein, so I try to take that after meals. My thyroid meds need to be on an empty stomach and at that same time every day and not with calcium. I'm taking that at night and taking the iron in the morning... just before I get to my coffee. So maybe I need to change that order. You would think that after 2 1/2 years, I would have this down, but I keep learning new things.
Thanks,
Suzanne
Sorry, no internet for 5 days!
The best time to take it is the timebest for you to get it IN.
While calcium prefers those "resting bones" as prime time, if bed time is best for iron, then it is and that's that. Just don't ever go to bed with ANY pills in your esophagus.
Think of iron as a highly unfreindly elemental. Grumpy, particular, can be uncomfortable in some forms. Vit C, however, is the happy vite, friendly, cheap, agreeable to most everyone. It helps set the scene for iron to make it a little more friendly.
So, if you put them together, alone on a honeymoon for an hour, at least you've got a chance. I'm not a fan of iron on an empty stomach, however, but with a few bites of fruit or veggie just so it had a nice "cushion" to land in.
While the rule is 2 hrs either side for normies, our rule is 1 hr EITHER SIDE, because our transit time is much shorter.

Thanks for the info. While I have your ear :-D Any suggestions on brands of iron or at least a suggestion as to what I should look for when reading the labels. I just started taking iron and it's about as confusing and finding calcium.
In reading the labels, I'm finding that iron comes in many different forms. Is the elemental iron always noted on the label?
I'm just about to finish the iron that I have, so I'm in search for some more.
Thanks,
Suzanne
Well I use Tender Iron. It's the only one I can tolerate, they're small, cheap, but I take 12 (with a vit C). No big deal to me cuz my levels are fabulous (not just "fine"), and that's how I prefer to keep them.
