B12, how high is high enough?

Michelle, I just had my 2 year labs.  My b12 is >1500.  My pcp commented that my b12 is a little high.  After reading your post, I will point out to him that it is fine.  I will also discuss this w/ my surgeon at my 2 yr appt this week.  Thanks for the info. Pam

Most lab ranges show 917 as in the normal range, however for gastric bypass patients my opinion is you never want it below 1000.  Mine runs around 1500-1900 and although my PCP says it's too high and I'm wasting the B-12 I figure it's worth the few cents a day I'm flushing out of my system. I think your doc is wise to push your #s up there; the affects of deficiencies can be debilitating.
