Thank you so much for replying. I appreciate you being firm. It is so hard for me, thats why I never could lose weight before the surgery, because I cant diet. I just cant drink alot of water and I dont know what else to make with dinners other than carbs ( noodles, potatoes etc.) Iam so scared. Thanks again

I looked in the store today for protein bars, they are so high in carbs , like 25grams. Isnt that too high? I couldnt find any with low carbs. Or should I be looking at fat or sugar amounts? Im so confused. When Iam grocery shopping, what should I be cautious of? Protein, sugar or carbs? I hope you can help. Thanks

First I am going to stress the importance of drinking water - by drinking coffee and diet soda all you are consuming is caffiene - in addition to the 8 glasses or so of water a day you should be drinking, for each cup of caffeine you should have an additional glass of water to balance it out.  As for the protein bars - perhaps the protein bar youve chosen is too high in fat/calories/carbs/sugar and thats why the scale went up? I would also go as far to say that it could be due to all the carbs you are eating - bagel, then 1-2 protein bars, noodles and popcorn - the majority of your calories are comming from carbs instead of protein/fat.  As stated above just because you can eat what you want doesnt mean you should - there is no reason you cant eat what you want, thats not what the surgery was designed for. You need to strive to start eating balanced proper meals and meeting, not exceeding your daily nutritional goals. I suggest start by working on one thing at a time - work on getting in the amount of protein you need in a day from FOOD and not protein bars, work on cutting the carbs back, work on getting the water in.

I am not sure what your nutritional goals are so its hard to say what you should be eating in a day - were you given any sort of calorie/fat/carb/protein guidelines? As for protein that shouldnt be too hard - you want to stick to lean proteins when it comes to meat - chicken turkey lean beefs... dairy is a good source of protein but stick to LF or FF dairy products... soy products are another good source - soy milk, veggie meats (boca burgers - yum!!). Your meals should be balanced - protein first, then veggie/fruit lastly starch/carb (limited!). Since you like to have a bagel for breakfast my suggestion would be to check out Jimmy Deans DLites breakfast sandwiches - they are made with egg whites and turkey products. I buy the Egg Sausage and Cheese - it comes on a whole wheat muffin... I let it thaw and pull the cheese off (its full fat cheese) and heat the rest - I usually finish 1/2 or I will pull one of the english muffins off and eat the entire thing - great protein packed breakfast thats decent on calories, fat and carbs.

I really dont have a nutritional goal. I dont know what one is. I was never given any guidelines, so what should I be looking for at the grocery store? fat, sugar, carb,or protein? Which one do I want the lowest grams of? I feel so in the dark.HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Joannie

You want the most protein for the calories - you always want the lowest sugar (7g or less, if its sugar alcohol whatever you can handle) low fat and medial with the carbs. Protein bars I liked were Think! brand and Detour bars. I ate the pnut butter in both brands... detour has now come out with a lower sugar version think cal - 240 fat - 8 carb - 26 prot - 20 sugar - 0 detour  cal - 190 fat - 7 carb - 17 sugar - 6 protein - 15 A nutritonal goal is how many calories, carbs, fat, protein you should be getting in a day. Do you have a NUT you work with?

I  really appreciate your help, but I still cant understand it. You must think  Iam really stupid. It is so hard to count calories. So when I shop, I should make sure it has less than 7g of sugar, what is considered low fat?, then carbs? In that order? When should I eat a protein bar? I dont eat lunch. Thanks again

There really is no order - you just want the most protein out of the bar without eating a ton of calories, carbs, sugar. Like I said earlier many protein/meal replacement bars are really candy bars in healthy packaging - the Detour and Think! bars are good choices.... you want to look for bars like those or similar in nutritional stats. Definition of low fat? I am not sure. I am to only eat 30g of fat a day so I do 10g fat or less per meal so its evenly split. Typically I eat more fat at lunch and dinner and the smallest amount at breakfast.  You dont have to eat protein bars - but you shouldnt be skipping meals. If you are not eating lunch then that would be a good time for some form of protein. You should be aiming to eat every few hours... either 3 meals, 3 meals 2 snacks or 5-6 small meals. Eating every few hours keeps your metabolism going... it also allows you to ensure you are eating enough in a day and keeps you from getting to a point where you are so hungry you are overeating.

And you don't use protein drinks.......... why again? So much easier for a not-much-meat or fish eater like me.

I do bars, but they are real protein bars, as in 30g protein (tho I don't count the protein in them) with single digit carbs. However, they ARE my meal, not in addition to my meal. I do 6 protein drinks/day and curretnly 3 bars. I'm so in love with them that they are all I want. They are not Zone or Luna or any of the grocery store types.

I had some filet mignon the other night, but really, , I'd rather have had a bar., LOL Or half a bar. I do that some times, just go for weeks with one item over & over.

The bars I use are big bars, so about 300 cal/each, again 30g protein, 6 carbs and I make 2 meals of them.

I would never do carbs for bfast (makes me an eating machine all day), and the bag of carbs before bed may cost you down the road, say at 3 yrs out?

Everyone has already spoken abou****er, but what I'd say ios: kidney stones. That's kind of a fast insta-lesson in water and which calcium to take. but the hard way. Your WLS have given you some firm but loving suggestions here, which is very cool.

I was excellent with protein, vites, no milk, no sugar, so I lost the wt, but I was terrible with water. What has finally worked for me is the 8 oz bottle, so I can always have COLD water and I can down those lil babies all day and I now crave water.
