Hello everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! I posted over on the general board but some people said that this is probably where I need to be since I am so far out from having my surgery. I had my Gastric Bypass 3/29/04, and lost 140 pounds. Since then I have gained back about 50. I am very very discouraged and dissapointed in myself.....because I never even reached my goal! I don't even know what happened to me...I was so unbelieveably strict with my eating and then all of the sudden things started to change. I am getting married in June, and I really need to lose this weight. Its causing serious problems in my relationship.  I was just wondering if anyone of my fellow post ops have taken Alli. Is it ok to take that for us? I would really like to try it because I think that it will give me the restrictions I need to get back on track. I don't know about any of you but, I am hungry all the time now and it takes an awful lot more to fill my pouch. I am going to try the pouch test first however, but I was just curious if anyone had any information about Alli and its effects on us.  Thank you everyone! I really really need support and appreciate your help in advance.

Kimmie it would be helpful to know what and how often you are eating.  Also, you mention nothing about exercise?

Hi Kimmie, Congradulations on the wedding date.   Don't be so hard on yourself.   We all fail sometimes but we just have to remember to get back into the program.    I don't know if Alli is safe for you to take.   You should call your surgeon and ask.   You didn't tell us what surgery you had.   I had my RNY 11/22/05.  I am down 140 ( give or take some ).  LOL   When I start to gain I substitute high protein bars for meals.   Then usually within a week to 10 days I have lost the 5 lbs that I have gained.    Sounds to me like you have fallen back into the old habit of eating carbs and high calorie foods with NO nutritional value.   Go back to your basics.   I know that you can get those 50 lbs off before your wedding.   You have come the right place for help.   Don't feel lost about never reaching your goal.   I have never reached mine either.   My body quit loosing ( i think the excess weight is skin that I have.)    We are all here to help you to reach your goal and encourage you.   Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CAN NOT CHANGE;   COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS THAT I CAN;  AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE !!!!    THIS IS MY DAILY PRAYER.

Thank you Vivian! I cannot help but feel horrible about things. The way I eat is very very bad in Gastric Bypass standards. I had the RNY. I eat usually 3-4 smaller meals a day....but then at night its like I go crazy! I have to eat stuff at night. No matter what diet I am on.....I would rather eat hardly at all during the day and save some calories for nighttime. That is the way I have always been. I admit that the things I eat have no real nutritional value..........and believe me I know what and how I should be eating. I am just so surprised that the bad habits came back so easily.....especially since I was so motivated. Sometimes I think I have some deep rooted fear of being under 200 pounds. I have had some bad things happen to me in my life, and sometimes I think that I use fat as a shield. You know, like if I am fat no one will want to hurt me, no man will look twice type of thing? I wonder that sometimes......if I subconsciously sabotage myself.  As far as exercise.....it is limited. I was going to the gym quite a bit. But I really really hate working out. I know I have to do it so I am planning on starting again. I think that I am going to try swimming because I would enjoy that more.

Honestly? If you know that you are eating crap and too much at night, then you need to just get a grip on that. There are things you can eat at night that won't blow your calories for the day.I do that, too.  I just don't eat greasy, fried stuff or empty calories when I do it.  As for exercise-if you're 50 pounds up, exercise isn't an option, it's a requirement. It sounds as if you know exactly why you've put on the weight and how to get rid of it--it's just a matter of you making the committment to do it. I don't think that Alli or any other meds are going to really help you make goal for good unless you are ready to tackle your food addiction and your lack of exercise.  That said, I would think that Alli is a bad choice for RNYers, but as always, talk to your surgeon.

OBMIK is spot on.  The surgery is limited in what it will do for your weight loss with that said you need to remember success comes to those who prepare for it.  I can't say I love  the gym but I do it and I do it consistently, there is no other option for more reasons than just weight loss.  I easily feed 6 to 8 x's a day my last around 9pm when I get home from the gym (which usually consists of a 1/2 chicken breast and some cottage).  I consume about 2200 calories a day and I'm still losing at almost 3 years out.  There are a million and one reasons why you can and should be successful, however I have only read 3 that you have offered up not to succeed.
