OH my god. Can I just say that I wrote this whole big paragraph and then the stupid computer refreshed and now I have to write this all over again??? GRRRR I hate it when that happens!!!! Ok as I said before. I am starting the 5 day pouch test tomorrow and I am really excited YAY! I finally feel for the first time since my surgery that I have some hope!  Anyway....I just have a question about the test. Are you allowed to incorporate foods from the first few days into the foods on the 4th and 5th days? LIke I am allowed to have an egg for breakfast on the 5th day.....or am I going to have to choke down a chicken breast early in the morning! The thought of that is kinda gross......I am sure you probably are not supposed to eat the foods from the other days but I was just curious.  I think for me day 4 is going to be the worst. I do not like seafood so according to the list on the website I will not really have many options. Day 3 will just be alot of eggs in different ways.......cottage cheese.......and I will choke down some tuna. I am going to try the Salisbury Steak recipe from the website on day 4 however. I think that one sounds good. There was a tuna patty one that sounded pretty good too.  Well good luck to all of you and hopefully someone will know the answer to my question...even though I think I already know the answer :-)

I'm finishing up day one of the pouch test, and it's going ok. I'm hungry, but doing better once I remembered that I can eat (drink!) as much of those things as I want. As to your question, it's my understanding that, just like when we were newly post-op, this builds from liquids back to "normal" foods so, yes, you can continue to eat things from the previous days and add the new things.  Also, on the "canned fish" day, canned chicken is fine, too. She mentions it in the details, although it's not on the main list.  Good luck!

Yes, Kimmie, I agree w/ Beth that each day accumulates.  At least this is the way I've understood it from what I read and what others have said when this question comes up.  (And I did it this way back in Oct.)  I had good luck even with doing a modified version because of traveling the last 2 days.   Good luck with it!  The first day for me wasn't bad--kind of a novelty and I was really "pumped"; however, the 2nd day was the pits.  I couldn't wait to get to Day 3!!  Just do the best you can, and if you're not "perfect," don't throw in the towel--stay w/ the spirit of the thing and just keep on!

Always,
Jo

Thanks for responding guys! Actually to my surprise you guys are right!!! I found this on the blog for the 5 day pouch test website:  "What do you eat for breakfast on days 4 and 5? I can see eating steak and chicken and ground meat for lunch and dinner but what do I do about breakfast?" --BaileyGirl

"On days 4 & 5 you can still eat stuff from days 1,2 &3. So, use a protein drink, egg, or cheese stick for breakfast and you'll be fine." --Kressy

"They are correct, that any of the day 1,2 & 3 foods are fine for days 4 & 5. But it never hurts to look outside of the "Breakfast Box" and eat lunch or dinner type foods. I've found that a few thin slices of chicken breast hold my appetite and energy in check better than anything else I can eat for breakfast. Although, admittedly, I'm stuck in a hard-cooked egg/cottage cheese breakfast rut." --Kaye So that is great! I didn't think you would be able to do that. For some reason under the main instructions it sounds like you are not supposed to do that. I think I am going to try not to eat some of the things from the first few days anyway.....except for maybe the eggs and tuna...maybe some sugar free pudding at night :-)
