Did You Move To Lose? I need a bandaid for my butt
Hi Everyone
Sorry for posting this so late in the day... I had a bar bell strength class I wanted to attend.
Well as we all know I suggest often that we try new things to keep the old bod quessing and to something you love to do. One of my New Year resolutions was to try new things. Well I took my first spin class last night....OMG
First of all, you get your cardio work out by standing up and peddling. I was not able to do it for very long the first time, I have bad knees and it really seemed to bother them. So I sat most of the class. They have a screen that is flashing outdoor stuff and the instructor says things like we are in the woods, feel the sun shine, smell the fresh air.
Ok, I have an great imagination but this was not working for me
She did say you have to take the class at least 5 times to give it a fair chance. I will give her that, as I tell people when they first start to exercise to give it 30 days and you will be hooked. But this REALLY hurts your butt. They say it takes 3 days for the soreness to go away
I look like a rode a horse for a week
So I plan on doing it a few more times. I am going to ask the instructor how long it takes to get to where you can stand and if I am doing something wrong that is making my knees hurt.
But I have to say, this is some intense workout and if you have serious cals to burn this is the way to go
So I got back this morning from my barbell strength class. You workout all the body parts with weights. I really love this class.
So my friends, Did You Move To Lose and or Maintain Today? Come on the week is almost over and we are kicking some serious butt
Take care,
Kathy

Hey Kathy!
I hear you on the butt thing! I have to ask this...is your butt the kind of sore you get from riding a bike or the kind of sore from a good workout? Because it is two different things, no? Anyway, I know the same thing happens when you start riding any bike but this does not help you feel better, huh?
I *just* got back from the gym a few minuets ago. AWESOME workout! I did my lower body again since I did not get sore from my last workout. Did lunges and deep dips with one of those big balls against the wall until I totally could not take anymore. So...whoo-hoo, it burned and I will see some results from this!
Speaking of butts...stay with me here please. I am able to see a real butt forming back there when I see my side profile. Results are so fun!
I will try that spinning class and let you know how it goes.
Baby got butt!!!!! Yahoo....Did you get my other email. I told you when you walk away they will being seeing your tight butt!!!
No, it's the kind of sore you get from riding a bike and having a bony butt
Your workouts are really awesome, keep it going ok?
See ya tomorrow

Kathy,
I absolutely love spinning classes. When I first started taking them, I took about 5 classes a week and then I started doing other things to mix things up. When you stand and pedal, make sure you have on enough tension as it will ease the pain in the knees. Too little resistance can be a bad thing especially when you're standing. I still take one class a week and try to get out on the road and ride for real. Did my mile swim this morning and took a step aerobics class afterwards.
Keep trying the spinning classes........they are great for burning calories.
Joann
Hi Joann,
I am going again tomorrow and thanks for the advice. I was hoping there was a secret to being able to do it for so long and not hurt the knees... I will let you know how it goes!
I take other classes there are right next to the spin class area and see people coming out looking like someone took the hose to them, so I get the drift this was the place to go for serious burning of cals.
Awesome job Joann,.....you are my inspiration
Take care,
Kathy

You are WonderWoman in the gym Kathy!!!!!!!!!!!! Good for you for trying out something new and not giving up on it even though your butt hurts, LOL!!!! I am trying some new things out too~Tracy sent me a pilates dvd that I'm going to give a whirl. I also feel like I need something to destress me so maybe I'll give yoga a shot~I've never done anything like that before. I would love to take a belly dancing class if I get up the nerve some day!
Anyway, today Jim and I did 3 miles outside~it was a brisk 31degrees, but the sun was shining so it wasn't too bad.

Hi you bunch of moving animals!
Tuesday I went to the club, 20 mins forest walk on the treadmill, 15 on the bike. Did some core and arm machines.
Wednesday was bowling.
Tonight was a power nap, man, I was beat today. But I did get up and walk outside in the snow for 2.5 miles in 37 minutes.
I do ride my bike in the nice season and one thing that was huge is I got a woman's seat and made sure the tilt along w the height is adjusted for me. Takes about 3-4 rides for me to get my butt back LOL. Don't know if that helps with spin...I still don't feel comfortable enough w myself to be on one of those bikes in a group.
I'm still moving!

Oh. My. Lord. Spinning class AND barbell strength class--you are awesome!
I simply can't bring myself to try the spinning class that's offered at my gym. Every friend of mine that has tried it (we're talking women in our 50's!) hated it (the butt factor and the intensity) , so I'll probably never try it. (Admittedly, I think they all gave up before they might have changed their minds.) I do know it's a SERIOUS calorie-burner, and my hat's off to anyone who does it!
I got in a good gym workout. 50 min. of cardio and 10 min. of upper body weight machines. (I'm just easing back into the w.t., as I haven't done it for 6 wks.)
I may not get in another workout until late Sun. afternoon. I'm going to sub teach tomorrow and then have company coming tomorrow evening for the wkend. I'm just hoping I can keep my eating under control since I've been doing really well all week (for the 1st time since T-giving
).
Jo

Always,
Jo
Hi Kathy - I know I am not a grad, was just lurking at work and wanted to tell you that I spin and I bought a gel seat cover from Sports Authority. It was like $15 or $20 but so worth it. It ties onto the bike and I am not the least bit embarrassed to bring it to class with me. It was actually suggested to me by an instructor back when I first started and it helps considerably. Just thought I would throw it out there. Good luck.
