Death Rates From Bariatric Surgery
First off, this article is 4 years old.
Secondly, they aren't saying what people are dying of within 15 years. It could be old age (depending on their age at surgery), accidents, suicide, whatever. Death is not always a direct result of ones physical health.
Thirdly, much of the information in this study seems pretty alarmist to me. I know hundreds of people that have had RNY and 1 in 50 of them is not dead. Heck, barely 1 in 50 of them have had a complication. The only one I can think of off the top of my head who is dead, committed suicide.
And finally, the conclusion of the study is that while there is an increased risk up front, bariatric surgery improved long-term survival in extremely obese patients.

If I were lying, wouldn't my pants be on fire?!?
