One or two year honeymoon period?
It was a little over a year for me when I leveled off.
Then I had a surprise loss of a few more pounds at about 18 mos and gained it back almost immediately and that put me about 7-8 lbs up from the lowest weight. That's pretty much where I have stayed three years later (4 years all together)
I flux between 5-10 lbs from winter to summer with winter being my high weight time and summer I get nice and trim again from high activity.
I started at 315lbs and average 165 lbs + or - 5 (lost 150 lbs in all)
I did hit an all time high of 178 after initial loss and maintenance...But some of that was a "drain" problem...and was an unusually long time to be bloated and stopped up...Milk of Magnesia put me right back in a decent range. A good 10 of it was eating wrong... and took a month to lose the rest and get back on track and at my reg weight. My personal goal was 160. I get within a pound or two of that in the summer usually...
Here's what happened with me: 3/2006 -- initial consult -- 399lbs 4/2006 -- surgery -- 371lbs and... AROUND 10/2007 the weight loss mostly stopped. I'll lose a pound here, I'll gain one there, I'll lose, I'll gain. Fluctuations, they tell me. I would SAY I've been maintaining at AROUND 170 (165 was my lowest, sometime last month, and I've been as high as 175 (suspected water retention though) since around then. However, like everyone else, I'm incredibly afraid of regain. Having just stopped losing, though, I haven't actually SEEN this yet. So I would say my honeymoon was about 18 months, but in that time I got rid of 230lbs too... people with less to lose generally do it quicker. Hope that helps!
I had my surgery on Dec.27, 2007. My pre-surgery weight was 301 pounds and I currently weigh 181. I am struggling to get lower in my weight loss. I do water exercise classes four times a week and some swimming. I have begun to eat more lately and am worried that I am returning to old habits. This scares me a lot. I too have heard the stories of people regaining their weight and I do not want that to happen to me. I have been able to stop taking all prescription meds and have felt wonderful since about 6 months out of surgery. While my original reason for the surgery was to be healthier, I like wearing size 12 clothes instead of 24's and would like to continue the weight loss process until I hit my goal of 160 pounds. I need the support of others who have undergone this process and find themselves strugglig with old habits.
