For the past two weeks I have sat long and hard thinking about my journey to this point.  It's been close to 3 years since my journey began and I think back to before my surgery, when I would sit on my couch, scouring the internet for information on WLS and weight loss options, wishing and praying for a miracle to lose weight.   Well it was three years ago that the light bulb came on when a friend of mine, who was only 33 at the time and very very heavy, had a heart attack and landed in the hospital for a week.  Her heart attack was due to her weight and incredibly high blood pressure.  She had a little girl and was taking care of her by herself.  The whatifs really got to me.... This scared the absolute crap outta me, I did not want this to be my fate (I wanted to have a future, with my husband and have children) and it was in that moment that I changed my life.  After years of researching WLS, I made the choice to pursue it, I picked up the phone and scheduled a consult.  And I made a vow to myself that I am going to be healthy and I am going live.  I had to change my life, and make that change I did.  Did you make that change for the rest of your life?  I stress "Change" because that is what this journey is about, making complete Lifestyle Changes.  Yup, we faulter, yup, we have weaknesses and insecurities, but we made a choice to change our lives.  For the rest of our lives.  I will be the first to raise my hand saying I find myself faultering at times, eating things I shouldn't, getting a bit lax with exercise, seeing fluctuations on the scale, but I am thrusted back to those days of facing a short lived life or a long healthy life.  This takes work, there is no doubt about it and this is absolutely NOT the easy way out.  We all have had to fight, tooth and nail, scratching and crawling to lose weight, but it takes very hard work.  We hit plateaus, speed bumps, road blocks, but in the end we made (and have to continue) the changes, for the rest of our lives, let's not ever go back.  Keep your head up, we are going to do this together. :) ~Shannon -115 lbs and working really hard to maintain.
