It's NO joke folks...

I wish I would have found this forum about 2 years ago!  I had my surgery in 11/04. I became pregnant 6 months afterward.  When my daughter was about 4 months old (and I was not taking my supplements like I should have), I had a severe episode.  I was sitting on my couch when all of a sudden I had severe heat through my body, my blood pressure went up and I was apparently hyperventilating.  Everything was a blur.  We called 911 and in the emergency room I kept having tingling in my extremities and my heart racing.  Over the next days I was incapacitated.  I was a wreck!  I kept having these episodes (although not as bad as the first one).  My mom had to take me to her house, as I could not care for my 5 children and husband.  It was awful.  I saw my pcp and he diagnosed me as having anxiety and panic attacks.  He gave me valium and zoloft.  In the days to follow my vision became blurry and I was a mess.  Somehow, I asked my doctor on the advice of a friend, if I could have B12 shots, as my B was low in blood work.  Immediately after the shot my vision was back to normal.  I couldn't believe it!  When I said this to my doctor, he dismissed it, and to this day does not think the anxiety and nervous disorder stems from nutrition whatsoever. He wanted me to see a psychiatrist to get a ****tail of medication. I just started weaning myself off the zoloft, as I firmly believe I was having neurologic issues due to vitamin deficiency.  In reading this thread, it seems that it is possible. Thank you.

Oh my god, I appreciate the message about taking your vitamins, but now you people have me more confused about these Dam vitamins than I ever was before.  I am a critical care registered nurse who has worked in ICU and I feel like my knowledge base is better than most when it comes to medical issue - that is what is scary to me right now as I read this post.  The inital message was to remeber to take your Vitamins, not start telling people what to take.  My surgeon actually warned me about looking at "crap on the internet" (now those were his words, not mine - just trying to make a point.  My doctors point ( and a very fine point indeed ) is that everyone needs to listen to their Doctor and especially their Nutritionist.  Each and everyone of us are different  = weight and height and pre-existing medical conditions.  That alone might be why some of us have different needs.  Our needs are all different  - Period.  We all may operate under the assumption of having similar needs, but the reality is we all have different chemical compostions that need fine tuning - hence the need for thorough lab work monitoring.  One person said it best above, unless you are a licensed doctor/phamracist or registered dietician/nutritionist then you best stick to the message of reminding people to not forget to take their vitamins as prescribed by their doctor.  For those of you whose doctor is a worthless piece of crap and won't give you guidance, fire his ass and get someone else, even if he isn't a bariatric surgeon.  Find one who will listen to your needs and concerns.  Find one who will take the time to look you in the eye when they are in the examinig room with you and not just writing notes on paper.  Keep looking high and low - all you have to lose is your life.  Is it worth your time to look for that hidden gem of a doctor.  Being a nurse, it still took me one year and five different doctors before I found mine.  Good luck and don't get lost on the meaning of the original post.  Taz
